Anyone with a DS who wants.....

My son is 9 and in 4th grade and wants to grow his hair out too. To me, its just a phase, so I'll let him do it (which drives me nuts cause I'm a stylist). But, come summer, he'll get sick of it and buzz it again.

DS is almost 10 and is growing his out as well. I'm so tired of the grandparents complaining he needs a haircut! I seem to remember MY grandparents complaining about my brother needing a haircut......Funny how history repeats itself.......

I was just thinking the same thing about how things always come back in style. And about the grandparents comments, I know what you mean. DH's mom keeps telling Matt he looks like Tinkerbell, lol!

Personally, I like it. I've never been a fan of buzz cuts.
Same. I don't like buzz cuts. Long hair good. short hair bad. lol

You have to admit that your poppysan's hair is pretty cool being as he is an old man and all;)

I'm going through the same thing with my 12yo. He always had it very short--not always a buzz, but a very short haircut. Wanted it cut often, too. Now he's let it get a lot longer. He's entering the bar/bat mitzvah circuit, as I call it (the year when his friends are turning 13yo and the Jewish ones are having B/B Mitzvahs) and I did have himget his hair trimmed recently. It's still a lot longer than it used to be, but at least it was shaped up.

My 15yo has gone back and forth with wanting long hair/growing it out/getting it cut short for years so it's different for him.

My 6yo just started wanting his long and not wanting a haircut (wanting to be like his brother I think), but when I was at WDW my DH got him to agree to a haircut. Not sure how. :teeth:

I like the longer hair. To me, most boys don't look good with the super short hair.

It's funny but I see so many of the earlier styles coming back lately.

My youngest DS (14) is growing his out, as well. He's had a buzz for years. I guess he's noticing the new trend and wants a change too. Doesn't bother me if he want to wear it a little longer. :)

Those cuts look terrible! LOL! With DS in a private school, I have a little more leverage in getting his hair cut. Just did it the other night. I had my own done, and he had no clue he was in for it also. :teeth: What he wants I call the Eddie Munster look. Terrible.

My kids go to a private school as well and they have so many rules regarding jewelry, uniforms, shoes, socks....you name it....they've got a rule for it, but the rule handbook re: hair just states that it should be neatly styled and of reasonable length and that suitability of the hairstyle is determined by the principal. I've not seen boys with hair quite to their collar but it's close.

I REALLY hate short hair...teenager in the 70s...but sorry, most boys (or girls for that matter) don't have the facial features to handle a short haircut...you need some length, some curls, etc...to minimize the flaws. DS is autistic, so not one to follow trends...he wants a haircut every 3-4 weeks, drives me crazy !!! The buzz cut is the worst, I was a teacher in a public middle school...all the boys looked like refugees. I read a book once, the author was visiting England in the 70s...she was at Eton, and she mentioned how great the boys looked w/ their long hair and tailcoats...said how ridiculous they must have looked in the 50s. ITA.

DS is growing out his hair. He used to wear it pretty short, but during last summer he decided to let it grow, and loves it now. He just laughs at me when I tell him it's time to mow it a bit. Luckily, his school told him in November that if he didn't cut it he couldn't return (Catholic school), but now it's back to unruly. He has thick wavy hair and it's in the in-between stage right now. He & my dd's friends are also letting their hair grow. It amuses me how my dd sticks up for him whenever I start to tell him that it's time to get his hair cut.

Personally, I prefer the short look, but he's so happy with that scruffy, unruly, sasquatch (sp) look, that I get a kick out of his happiness.

DS15 started growing his hair out last summer. We recently moved and all the boys here have longer hair. Right before Christmas, DS decided he wanted a haircut, after 2 people called him 'ma'am' LOL. His hair was curly on the ends, he has long lashes and smooth skin (for now). I took him in and the stylist said "are you sure you want to cut off these beautiful curls?" and he said YES! Two people waiting for cuts commented that he didn't even look like the same kid after the haircut. His cousin, 24, really razzed him for cutting it but DS seems pleased with it shorter.

DS 13 wants to grow his hair out too. It is just starting that in between stage. Glad to know this is a trend everywhere. I was worried that DS was being influnced my my 80's music.
