Anyone with a DS who wants.....

to grow their hair out? I'm not talking like long, long, but long compared to what we're used to. We've almost always had Matthew's hair in a short buzz cut, he always wanted it that way. Well, now he and most of the boys in his school want or have longer hair. By long I mean long bangs and maybe to his collar. Wow, is this ever hard to get used to! It looks terrible right now in the growing out stage and I'm not sure if it'll ever start to look better to be honest. BTW, he's 8 & in third grade. Just wondering if this is a local trend or is this everywhere? Oh how I miss those days when you could make them dress & look exactly how you wanted, LOL.

My DS11, and many of the boys at his school, have what I call the "John Lennon" look. It is a definite Fab Four feel to it as best as I can describe. Not the "bowl" cut look, just the messy longish look that begs to be cut. I am going to take him to get it cut so it looks a bit neater, but keep the general style. It seems like the boys around here either have a crew-cut/buzz-cut or go fo this look.

My son has always had long hair. He feels it is part of him; I agree. Personally, I don't like buzz cuts on boys. just my opinion, no judgements about your kids' hair cuts. Lots of buzz cut boys around my house whom I really like. Their haircuts make me wince though. lol The style I REALLY HATE is the Ceasar. Hate it!!!!!! Can't stand the greasy bangs on those adolecent faces.

I'm in college and it deffinitely is a trend. My friends and I call it "hockey hair" because most of the boys we know who play hockey have it.

Well, it won't be long before my DS (10) wants that too. I say that because he always seems to want what our neighbor boy has (he's 12) & that's how he wears his hair. It always looks so messy too! I want to grab him & brush his hair each time I see him!! So far, my DS is still happy to wear his pretty short but it won't be long before he changes his mind!

LOL- Yes my DS is 11 and currently growing his hair out - it is the trend. I am trying to look on the brightside - it is saving me money by not having to take him in for a haircut so often now - LOL

Yep! I just called Matt in and asked him and he said he wants it like your friend who just got it cut. Now I must admit that doesn't look bad. I guess it's just tough going through the in between stage plus the fact I've never seen him with that much hair! Until he was about two he was bald as a cue ball!!!

My DS13 has long hair. Past his shoulders kind of long. I love it on him.

Yep! I just called Matt in and asked him and he said he wants it like your friend who just got it cut. Now I must admit that doesn't look bad. I guess it's just tough going through the in between stage plus the fact I've never seen him with that much hair! Until he was about two he was bald as a cue ball!!!

yeah. the inbetween is hard. its kinda standing up and laying down at the same time. once it gets long enough to lay flat it gets better.

Yup - it is the trend here too (Colorado). I have a DS - third grade, and they are all growing their hair out. And watch your box of highlighter because the boys here also like to bleach out their bangs. DS's best friend, a sports fanatic, has always had a buzz cut. Now it is long, curly and bleached. Reminds me of highschool in the late 70's

OMG too funny! Although Matt's hair is pretty blonde, especially in the summer, but I could see him making it darker or something!

Look at it this way...we're saving money!!! My older son is 13. I don't think there are more than 2 or 3 boys in his school that DON'T have that shaggy, unkempt look that's so popular these days. Poor ds wants his hear to grow long. Sadly (in his eyes...funny in mine), he has red, wiry, wavy hair that just ends up looking like a puffy orange brillo pad!! Still, it doesn't deter him. He hasn't had a hair cut since we made him get one at the beginning of the school year. Fortunately, this trend has not been adopted by our 5 yo ds...yet. Hopefully, the styles will change before he starts refusing to visit the barber!

DS 14 is having a VERY hard time with his hair right now. It's very coarse and curly, so it's at a stage now where it looks like a 'fro. I keep trying to get him to use some of my styling products, but he won't. I bribed him to try my Zero Frizz and it ended up looking really good, but he won't use it regularly.

Oldest DS is 9. He's asking to grow his hair also. I've noticed a lot of boys at school have long hair now, I thought it was my imagination

DS is almost 10 and is growing his out as well. I'm so tired of the grandparents complaining he needs a haircut! I seem to remember MY grandparents complaining about my brother needing a haircut......Funny how history repeats itself.......
