Anyone with a dd in dance school?

Just a thought on the recital my girls 6 and 4 have both been taking dance since they were 3 (ballet and tap). We go to our local YMCA however I think their program is a little different than other Ymca's because the classes run concurrently with the school year and end with a recital in April. The girls love the recital, even at 4 this is a great way to make them comfortable in front of audiences, give them confidence etc. I was always terrified of being on stage when I was younger but even my girls who can be shy LOVE performing!!! In the past recitals I only recall 1 little girl that was to scared to be on stage. Goodluck with your search, hope you can find a good studio.

Also, check with your local Park and Rec department. Classes are usually very reasonably priced, with no pressure put on kids (this is who I teach with, and have for the last 10 years!)

This is where my dd takes dance too. Through our local city, well it used to be our local city. We moved 3 1/2 years ago, and I still driver her 30 minutes each way one day a week because we love the program. It's puts the emphasis on fun, and there is no competition. There is a yearly recital with very reasonable costume costs. The woman who runs the program is amazing. My dd has danced there for 7 years now, she started when she was 3.

My daughter has taken ballet and tap since age 3, now at 5 she is doing some jazz too. She saw it on tv and didn't let up about it. She loves dancing, socializing with her friends

They definitely teach the basics and she loves showing off her terminology, positions and moves to anyone who will pay attention. I would definitely look for a company that focuses on those basics and I think a company that does a recital is important, the kids love to perform and make their parents proud. I would also look for a small class size, then the kids can really focus the whole time they are there.

In January Alice's little group will compete for the first time, not why she started dancing, but we'll see how it goes.

Here is a picture of her at her last recital in July, she is on the far left in pink
