Anyone willing to help with a Social Studies project?

Hi from New Orleans! If Flat Stanley wants to visit a few family-friendly Mardi Gras parades with us (Feb. 10- Feb. 21), I'd love to take him along. Most of the parades are named after Greek & Roman mythological figures, and Mardi Gras/Carnival is steeped in religious and historical symbolism. I can also send him back with Mardi Gras beads for all of the kids. If that doesn't work, we also have great St. Patrick's Day parades in March. (We can get some pics of him catching cabbages, potatoes, stuffed animals, & beads, lol.)

Before or after Mardi Gras in New Orleans he can visit me on The Gulf Coast of Mississippi...then...because I am only about 10 miles from the state of Alabama...I could drive him over there.

We have nice beaches and casinos. In Mobile Bay we have the USS Alabama battleship and also have Mardi Gras...and of course "Big Shrimpin".

My Aunt did this for my niece. My niece lives here in Mississippi and my (our) aunt lived in Pennsylvania. Flat Stanley visited my aunt and went to NYC and Washington DC I believe. My niece treasures that little scrapbook since my aunt is no longer with us.

My daughter's 2nd grade class is doing a Social Studies project to educate them about the United States called the Flat Stanley project. The class will be creating "Flat Stanley" and sending him to family and friends around the US. Stanley will visit for about 2 weeks and will need to be sent back with a journal, pictures and if you'd like a souvenir of his visit.

That is all I know of the project right now, I don't have any other specifics. They will be picking about 50 names of all that are submitted. If anyone would be willing to host Flat Stanley that would be awesome. They are trying to cover as many of the states as possible. Thanks.

This sounds like Flat Stanley is going to have a blast! Even if ToddyLu covers the coast, I'd be happy to host him in North Alabama. We have the US Space & Rocket Ctr here in Huntsville, and Constitution Village (site of the state joining the union, and the first capital of AL) sits near a still thriving antebellum neighborhood. Not too far away is the birthplace of Helen Keller in Tuscumbia. Lots of mountains, lakes, and caves around here too.
