Anyone Who Has Stayed at The Plaza

When looking up points, I noticed that The Plaza has two types of rooms. Those of you who have stayed at The Plaza, what level of room did you book and how was that room? I know some of you have reported on very nice rooms, I'm just wondering if they were at the higher point level.

We stayed in the lower point room. It was a BIG room with two queen beds. It was well appointed, decorated and antique. I would have liked to have seen the more expensive room, but ours was more than fine. Talk about doing nothing but sleeing there, we literally spent zero time in the room. We only spent two nights, so we had lots to do in the city.

One warning, the breakfast in the big open place you walk through and aroung every day is expensive. We ate there twice. The first time we saw the buffet price, it was like $30 per person or something, we figured that we would order off the menu. For two adults and one kid, we had a $116 check, plus tip!!!! The nest day we ordered the buffet, the check was under $100 and the buffet was WAY BETTER than the breakfast we ordered off the menu.

After staying there, I recomend watching that Richard Prior movie, "Brewster's Millions". A large part of it is set and shot at The Plaza. You will see many things and the kids scream "I was there!!!!"

Its also a funny movie.

Pam, we stayed there last year using the higher end points. The room was beautiful but not huge. The view of the park was limited but still exciting. We didn't bring the kids, so we had a King sized bed. The hallways in the Plaza are so beautiful and I couldn't help but think of Home Alone, Lost in NY. It was so funny. We really loved it and hope to go back again.

That's funny you mention that movie....there are also lots of shots of my old office building (101 Park Avenue). I also spent 5 years working in the GM Building looking out at The Plaza every day. Thinking about finally spending the night sometime!

Thanks for the info about the rooms. It's always so hard to part with those points.

we're almost neighbors again, I worked for CBS at BlackRock for a few years. That was back in the early 80's.

Now that we live in Florida, we went to NewYOrk for a couple weeks at Christmas time to hang out with some family, it just made sense to see a show and spend a couple nights in the city. Nothing like a kids face walking past Macys in December.

We stayed at the Plaza for 1 night 3 years ago. The room was very nice with a great view. I don't recall that there was any choice in rooms. We went in for the night and a show for my wife's birthday. We had a wonderfull time. I will add 1 thing about the breakfast at the plaza. We went in July so I wore shorts. They would not serve us unless I put on long pants. We walked 2 blocks and found a little coffee shop like on Sienfeld and had a great meal for around $12.00!

We stayed at the Plaza for one night about a month ago. We had the Deluxe roome, which cost 45 points. The room wasn't huge, but it was big enough to hold the king bed and have plenty of room to move around. The bathroom was good size.

Everything, of course, was beautiful. The whole room had an antique feel to it (except the internet appliance, of course! Try it out, but check before you click- going out to the web costs money.)

We had a view of the park from the main room and the bathroom.

This room was so great that my wife and I saw no need to spend the higher points level when we go back.

We also had the $100 breakfast (off the menu.) I will say that it was a nice experience- once. The Palm Court, where breakfast is served, is gorgeous and the service was impeccable.

You'll love it, I'm sure.

10 years ago a glass of fresh OJ was $8. I can only imagine today.

Also watch Arthur, that is in the Plaza too and is much funnier.

 

[Certifiable WDW Nut]

Over ten years ago, my husband and I spent our wedding night at the Plaza. It was incredible, but I think what we remember most was the room service breakfast we had - at that time over $50 for two orders of eggs benedict. Thanksfully, given the price, it was the best eggs benedict we have eaten but we still laugh about it!

Pam, I have stayed there many times before, not using points, at different level rooms and they are all very good in my opinion. I stayed there on business and most of the time did not spend alot of time in the room. Although the more expensive rooms did have a little more room I enjoyed even the lower cost rooms because of the elegance of the hotel. They do really go all out, in my opinion, to show you that they are a first class hotel. You will enjoy yourself and the city. It may not be as fun as WDW but it may come close.
