Anyone who has reserved a two-bedroom unit for part of their trip, then downsized to a studio at the same resort: Could you please tell me if you were allowed to stay in the studio which was part of your initial unit or if you were required to move to a different room when you changed to a studio?

Boy, that sentencing took forever to end! I would appreciate anyone sharing your experience. We are cruising, then spending 2-3 days at WDW, probably at OKW. I hate to spend big points on the weekend for the 2-bedroom, but also don't like the thought of completely moving for a last night or two. Throwing our stuff into the studio portion would be a simple matter, however. Actual experiences in this situation would help me to decide. Thanks!!!

Can't help you with an actual experience. Just wanted to tell you that if you are going to do this, make sure you request a lock off unit. I believe that most of the 2 bedroom units at OKW are dedicated (unlike BWV where they are all lock offs). Not sure if a lock off unit at OKW is a request or a guarantee, but I'm sure some of the OKW owners will know.

We did this once in reverse.. We had a 2 bedroom for most of the trip and then the inlaws left so we kept the 1 bedroom part. We requested this as a lock off and it was assigned as such. Normally this is supposed to be an easy transition. However in our case, and this was some years ago, somewhere at MS or OKW front desk they messed up. In laws left and we closed both the doors to the lock off and wife and I left for a while for breakfast I think. We came back to the unit and housekeeping was in the room, emptying out the kitchen. We (and they) were a little shocked. How Housekeeping didn't realize we hadn't checked out since all our stuff was all over the unit, I don't know. Anyway we went down to the front desk immediately, after asking Housekeeping to leave and not throw anything else away .. Front desk said yes, there was a mix up and were very gracious about it. They sent us into the General Store to buy anything that had been discarded and they reimbursed us for the expense. Nothing like this had ever happened before or since... If you do request a lock off make sure they know up front that you want to keep one half of the room, from what I understood they technically have to check you out and in again but it is really a paper transaction. This is just to make sure the keys that worked both doors before, only work the door of the unit you will be keeping...

We did the reverse also. On our past trip in Feb at VWL we had a 1 br unit for 1 night then upgraded to a 2 br. We were told when we checked in that we would not have to move and the studio portion would be opened for our guests arriving. We were in the parks when guests arrived. We made sure their names were on the ressie so they could check themselves in. When they went to check-in, they were told there was no such room and that they could not find their names anywhere! They did offer them a room in the main lodge, but they knew they had a room with us. In the end they were found on the ressie and given keys to our room. When we arrived back they were all settled in. Just be clear to MS and check in what you want to do!

We have downgraded from a 2BR to a 1BR on several occasions. As already mentioned, you will have to make sure you have requested and noted the need for a lock-off 2BR and get the CM at MS to note your desire to stay in the same studio. Reverify at check-in. Your will have to go to the desk and get a new key the day you downgrade, but we've been bale to remain in the room and not leave by 11:00am.

They may not be able/willing to guarantee this, but just have them note everything and link the reservations together.

Good Luck!

We down-graded from a 2 bedroom to a one bedroom unit a couple years ago when we were at BWV, and they refused to give us the one bedroom. We were forced to check out of the unit, store our belongings for the day, and check back in later in the day. Imagine our surprise when they checked us back into the one bedroom portion of our unit! I was very angry because I had a whole kitchen full of stuff that I had to throw out, due to their lack of accommodation. It was just so wasteful! They weren't even very nice at the front desk, repeating patiently that staying in the same room is a request, not a guarantee. I just couldn't seem to make them understand that I had thrown out $70 in food because of them. I did get a nice apology letter after I sent a letter of complaint....

I happened to call yesterday to add lock-off to my list of requests when I stay at OKW in May. I assumed it would just be a request like asking for Non-smoking, you ask for your desires and take what you get when you get there. But the CM said she was changing my ressie to a lock-off, so it sounds like a guarantee.

We had both could stay in the suite side another time had to move. It depends if they need the room to make it a 2 bedroom.Make sure that you ask the front desk when you check in. Good luck

I think that at OKW a lock-off or dedicated is a guarantee, also. When I initially made ressies at OKW, I forgot to make any room requests. When I called back to request a dedicated, she told me that that was already in there as guaranteed. Didn't really understand why.
