Anyone who did not like "Marley & Me" like UP?

I was looking for a movie to take my 3 kids, (12, 9, & 7), my DH, and his 82 year old parents. (Difficult to find something for everyone!)


I saw the previews for UP and thought it would be perfect, but then I remember taking the same crew to see "Marley & me" at Christmastime.

As a whole, we were disappointed. We went hoping for a lightweight, feel-good happy movie about an adorable dog.... NOT! This movie dealt with many adult themes and was mostly boring for my younger kids. My ILs were somewhat upset to be watching the Mom & Dad having sex in the hotel room and in the pool in front of the kiddies. And another sad scene... Not light, fun stuff...

I saw the thread about UP being a "downer", and I'm not sure if I want to go through that again.

Do you think the theme might strike to close to home for my ILs?


It's so hard to find something that we will all like, and I had high hopes for this one....

Before I saw up, I saw the title of the downer thread. I refused to read it because I did not want to be spoiled.

I saw Marley & Me on an airplane. The heartbreaking scene came on while I was eating my meal. I was a mess and couldn't finish my food and my stomach hurt for hours.

With Up, I was horrified I would have the same raction due to the way the thread was titled. I did not cry during the part in up where others said they did. That part can go over kids heads for the most part. I did cry at the end, but not tears of sadness, just from being very touched. As a whole, I found the movie to be very uplifting and I think your kids will love it. My nephew, who is 8, has seen it twice already.

You know what... it's my own fault. I should have seen it by now. I knew there was (sad stuff) just didn't know how. UGH!
