I wore mine until it started to crack. We were supposed to wear them until our soldier was either declared dead or came home. I found it again in a jewelry box, and DS9 messed with it and finished the break.:guilty:

Did anyone else wear one of these in High School? How long did you wear yours?

I didn't have one but I remember them. By the time I hit high school I don't think people were wearing them anymore. But I remember wanting to have one anyhow.

Can I ask, did your soldier come home?

I wore one for a Navy officer from here in our area. One of his sons was in my senior English class. When his dad was released from imprisonment in Viet Nam I gave my bracelet to the son. I figured in the long run it would mean the most to him. It was so incredible when his dad actually came back after several years in captivity. Thanks for bringing those memories back! :)

Yes. I had one in JR High and wore it til the last of POW came home :(

My Guy didn't come home :(
I kept it for a long time, but don't know what happened to it.

I didn't have one back then, but I have bought some online since then. I can't tell you how much those bracelets mean to the families of the heroes!! Two years ago, I spent Memorial Day in DC for the burial of a Vietnam MIA from GA, Capt, Herbert Crosby. Twenty six of us took motorcycles from GA to DC to attend his funeral when his remains were finally found. Several people that had worn his bracelet all these years were there to present their bracelets to the family members. I had ordered all of us some bracelets online so that we would have them for the trip. It was an awesome weekend and one that none of us will ever forget!!

When we got home, I ordered DH one for his cousin that got killed in Iraq. Most of the places that make them online do a great job on them!!

Yes - quite a few of us wore them in high school - and after.. I still have mine somewhere - probably packed away in a box..

One fella that graduated ahead of my class was a POW - and 2 young men from my neighborhood were killed in the war..:( My brother was in that war as well and still to this day he has a lot of anger about it - but won't discuss "why" with anyone..:sad2:

That was a tough, tough time - just as any war is..

Yes. I wore it a long time. My soldier died.:sad1:
But I now wear a necklace in honor of my DH who fought in Vietnam.:)

My DH has one, its in his jewelry box. No, his soilder did not come home

Are these the same as those metal bracelets that they sell at the Vietnam War monument in DC? I wasn't in high school in the 60's or 70's (ok I wasn't born yet :rotfl:) but I have one of those bracelets

I was too young for the bracelets. I just wanted to say sadly my father was in that war and like your brother still has a lot of anger about it and has never discussed what happened over there with anyone. He always got really angry when ever we asked him anything about it. :sad2:

I have one that I wear to honor my college sweetheart who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2005. I haven't worn the bracelet much lately but I did honor my friend in another way as well by naming my DS23months after him.

I wore a POW bracelet for Capt Jeremiah Denton and still have in my jewelry box.

Capt Denton was released in 1973. He continued in the Navy reaching the rank of Rear Admiral. After his Navy career he became a senator from Alabama.

A truly remarkable man.

Mine was for Eugene Stuifbergen, I believe. I think he was from Michigan, and was declared KIA.

My DH wore one for JD Hunt. He was a pilot on the aircraft carrier that my husband was stationed on during the war. We did visit his name on the Wall.

These are like the ones they sell at the monument. I was born during the Vietnam war and my DH was in it. What has helped him alot is associating with others that were in Vietnam, many of whom he met as a member and State Captain for the Patriot Guard and as a member of the Warriors Watch. These guys are determined that no other heroes will get the same treatment they got when they came home.

An interesting fact about the Vietnam memorial.... when we were there to honor Cpt Crosby, we visited the wall the evening before his service. He had the + sign by his name meaning his remains were not found and he was still classed as a POW/MIA. The next morning after his service at Arlington, we went back... They had changed his classification on the wall to the diamond shape, meaning he had been returned finally.

I wore my bracelet for a very long time. After I moved to Florida from Maryland, I put it in my jewelry box. About 10 years ago, there was an article in the local newspaper about the daughter of a POW-MIA named
Lt. Kenneth Wells. I tracked her down and gave her the bracelet. I figured it would mean more to her to have known that someone wore her father's bracelet for about 8 years.:grouphug:

I don't think so. He was MIA. A traveling Memorial wall came to our town, and I asked the soldier working there to help me find my soldier's name. He did, and said that he knew of him and his family! But I don't think they ever found him. So I would still be wearing my bracelet today if I stuck with it!

His name was Sgt. Michael Wallace. Fortunately for me, he was the only person I knew that went to Vietnam.:guilty:

I would like to take the time again to thank everyone out there who has served our great country. You are very much appreciated!
