we're watching it on HGTV...the rain is really causing problems for the parade. It's weird watching it...the colors seem dull. It's hard to keep the raindrops off the camera.

I'm still enjoying it though! :teeth:

I'm watching it on NBC. Too bad it's raining!

I know...can you imagine how HEAVY some of those costumes are going to be after a 5 and a half mile walk! :earseek:

I dunno, it seems wrong to have it today instead of yesterday...and to NOT have the Rose Bowl played yesterday or today seems so WRONG...

I agree with you...it did seem weird not watching it yesterday...but I saw a story about why it's never on Sunday and it made sense...

Here's another article about it:

Rose Parade And Rose Bowl 'Never On Sunday'

(AP) PASADENA, Calif. The 2006 Tournament of Roses Parade will not be held on New Year’s Day due to it’s ‘’Never on Sunday’’ policy as of 1893.

Officials in 1893 decided to move the parade to the next day, Monday, January 2nd, to avoid frightening horses tethered outside of Pasadena churches and interfering with worship services.

The policy has raised questions to Tournament of Roses officials if it has a special ‘’pact’’ with a ‘’friend upstairs’’ to keep it from raining on New Years Day. It has only rained nine times in Rose Parade History; the most recent being 1955.

The Rose Bowl football game is also never played on Sunday. This upcoming year’s game will be played on Wednesday because it is the Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game and must be played after all the other bowl games.

New Year’s Day will next fall on a Sunday in 2012.

It's pretty dark at times too. Kind of sad to see. But, nice to see how enthusiastic people are and there are pretty big crowds.
I really like HGTV's coverage.

Disney's Little Eintstein float won the Grand Marshall's award. :teeth:

I'm watching the ABC broadcast (Teri Hatcher and James Denton).

My parents were at the last Rose Parade that it rained! We lived in Ohio and my Dad won the trip. My Mom remembers the rain pooling in men's hats and then all of it sloshing out on to people sitting next to them!

We've had sooo much rain in NorCal, that it doesn't surprise me to see the anount of rain in SoCal.

The Disney float is AMAZING!!!! Lots of characters...and even some fireworks!!!

I'm watching! I hate that it's raining so much but they are being good sports about it! I loved the Disney float with the fireworks!

Only the young people can be marching or dancing in that rain with the biggest smile painted on their faces! Bless their hearts!!! :umbrella:
Yes, it is weird to see the rain spotted camera lens !!

I'm recording it so I can fast forward through the advertisements and the chatter.

your idea confused me for a minute...then I realized that HGTV is broadcasting without commercials!! :cool1:

Plus...I have a "secret crush" on Paul James (the gardener guy!) :teeth:

Basically, I just want to see the floats. That's why I record it.

It sure was! I just loved it! Poor Mickey got all wet :umbrella:

Am I crazy or was one of the bands playing the Fantasmic music? Did anyone else catch that? I figured it meant the Disney float was right behind them, but it wasn't. I think the Disney float was towards the end, right? This band was more towards the middle.

Either way, fireworks from a float in the rain? Impressive.

Yes one band did play the Fantasmic theme song

We got discussing the high school band that had over 600 members, we know how hard it is to transport my daughter's marching band - almost 300 members, we couldn't even begin to think about transporting over 600 members

We talked about that too!!! We figured they would need at least two 747's pretty much all to themselves. Then we thought maybe someone had a military connection (with 675 kids, someone's got to have a military connection, right? ;) ) they could have used a C5...

Either way, that's a lot of people to transport!!!

I know our band uses 7 buses (school or Greyhound), a full size semi trailer, and another truck that is about 1/2 the size of our semi truck.
