We saw him too. Saw the piano set up in front of the castle. Then I got a text from my CM SIL. She told me she heard a rumor he was playing. I responded that it made sense since I saw the piano.
It was a great treat...no inner circle action for me.

We were at dinner at Cafe Orleans. We knew filming was going on because they had those signs up (entering this area means you've given your likeness etc for taping Wonderful World of Disney 60th anniv, etc etc). At one point, crossing the hub, a man asked a CM "so who is playing tonight?" and the CM said "uh, I don't know". I wanted to go back and tell the CM what a bad liar he was, because it was obvious he did know. We were at dinner at Cafe Orleans when things started happening, and they did fireworks over and over (I want to say it was 3 separate times?). The people next to us leaned over and said that a CM had shared that it was EJ. I did alittle googling and found a tweet about it.

As we walked out, through Adventureland (they weren't letting anyone go through Frontierland), we heard Circle of Life. Now, I'm not sure there was any actual live singing going on...or he has an AMAZING, perfect voice, but either way, it was neat.

We were there last week and there were signs that they were filming a special that would air in Feb. and we saw boom cameras, but never saw any actual filming going on.

If it sounds perfect it's not live. He's not a great live singer IMO

Elton John always sings lives, even if it's touched up later for recordings. We saw him do four concerts a few weeks ago and he sounded wonderful mid December.
