There was a thread related to the show Big Love last yr but I havent seen it in sometime. Is anyone watching this season's episodes?
I caught up with recent shows on HBO on Demand tonight. There are a couple of things that I wondered about. Why did Alvie bother Bill's oldest daughter while she was parked with her older boyfriend/friend and where do you think Rhonda was going when she fled in the night?
I love all the symbolism and plots in this show.

I watch!

I was wondering the same thing about Alby harassing Sara. :confused3 I suspect it's the beginning of a developing story. That guy creeps me out.

I wonder if Rhonda is going to totally disappear, which will cause major panic in both the compound and suburban camps. Should be interesting.

What I'm loving this season is Margene's growing confidence in her ability to stand up to the others. It's adding some good comic relief to the show.:thumbsup2

I just caught up too! I'd been away and missed Big Love and the Sopranos and the first thing I did when I got back was get HBO on demand! (What a wonderful thing!!!)

I just have never seen a show with such a complicated, chaotic show that worked so well. You can just feel Bill's panic, and yet he keeps plugging away. I loved the scene where Wanda handed him the gun at the courthouse!

I think that Sara just got a little view into how men look at girls like her at the compound - Yuck! But Alby's gay right?

I think Alby will go either way - he's a dog and does whatever will have him.:scared:

I started watching last season with the finale. My question is, do I need to go back and watch the first episodes? I think they are on demand, I just don't know if I just start now(I think I know the plots, just don't know who really gave him the antifreeze(I think dad)). Any help you can give would be great.

You should watch them if you can -- they are just really good! Rent them from netflix or something. I don't think HBO on demand goes back that far.

I think you'll be fine. Most of what happened before is mentioned in the new episodes - alot of the first season was character building. If you pretty much understand the makeup of the two "camps" - Bill's suburban camp and Roman's compound camp - you're good.

Most important connection to make is that Nicky is Roman's daughter and still kind of lives in a traditional polygamist way - how she dresses, her beliefs, etc. - yet she's doing her best to handle the suburbs and be discreet - but she's not very good at it.:rotfl:

It's a great show, isn't it?:thumbsup2

I think Nicki looks so much older when her hair is up in the traditional way. I remember seeing her a few weeks back with it down and I thought WOW she is young. Also the third wife (forgot her name) I thought she was the babysitter, is she from a poligimist family???

No, Margene wasn't from a polygamist family -- which always makes me feel like she could wake up one day and say "WTH???" and run!!! :)

Did you notice that Rhonda stole the black girls Hard Rock Jacket. Remember last season she stole Sarah's ipod. I love the religious songs they are so funny--ie the Grant Family Singers. Poor Nicki I just love her HUSH!!!!

Did anyone see the behind-the-scenes shows on HBO? They were great. Hearing the actors' perspectives on their characters was fun.

They also showed the cast sitting around informally reading a script together - hilarious. They would read a line and then all crack up. Which proves they're good actors - how they pull some of those lines off without laughing amazes me.;)

OMG, I love this show. I haven't seen this weeks show yet, I will probably catch it later today sometime.

dbogen, I would definitely try to catch the first season if you have an opportunity. Worth watching and would give you more insight as to why they are the way they are.

The only thing I did not like so far this season was the scene with the teen son having sex with his GF. I know it's because I have a son around that age, but it sort of creeped me out.

Here's what I've been thinking about -- Barb's sister. I know she seems like a witch, but I might be doing the same thing if I were in her shoes.

I might try to lure my nephews and nieces away from polygamists - what do you think?

Yeah, I have thought of that also. It would be really hard imagining your sister in a situation like that. I can't even think of how I would act. But, I do know we would be estranged because I wouldn't want my children to be exposed to a life style like that. Its creepy and demeaning to women, IMO.

Ok, this is what bothers me about the shows situation:

Bill does not seem to be 'in love' with his wives. There is constant talk of 'we are family', but other than with Barb I am only seeing religious obligation and sort of a authoritative paternal yet sexual relationship with Margene and Nicky. i see more actual 'feeling' between the wives.

It's funny that you say this because I was kind of thinking the opposite -- but now I'm thinking I might have misread things and you might be right.

I was thinking that he seems to look at them all with genuine love -- like when he was with Nicky at the compound and they made love between the sheets on the clothesline -- that was pretty romantic. But maybe it was really just the way she was looking at him -- and maybe it's all lust with him.

I think those women all all good actresses to look/act so ga-ga over Bill Paxton! He gives me the creeps!!!!

Alby is a repressed homosexual ... he said so in one of the interviews of the Big Love actors that they're airing now. Also, Nicky alluded to Alby being a repressed homosexual b/c Alby said something about her being Papa's "favorite girl" and she said something like "no, you're Papa's favorite girl". I'd have to rewatch the Reunion episode -- but it's where they're all wearing best whites and Nicky's hanging sheets and she reprimands Alby saying "Alby, it's best whites, not brown".

Who thinks that Brynn (the girlfriend of Barb's son) is going to wind up pregnant? I said to DH ... wouldn't it be funny if Bill dumped Margene and the son took her and Brynn up as wives!?

And, what's Rhonda's big secret w/Nicky? Calling her a liar, etc.?
