WOW. Geena Davis was fantastic, but I thought the whole hospital scene was a little off, from the room to the president being able to talk so well after a major stroke.

Of the few shows I watch I will be tuning into this one next week.

What did you guys think?

I thought the premier was tonight???

I watched it through fuzzy snow since my cable is still out due to Katrina/Rita, but I loved it. I think I'll like it even more when I can see and hear it crystal clear. I'd vote for her tomorrow. ;-)

I agree , thought it was really good. Now there is one more show I'll just have to watch.

We have been looking forward to it all summer. It will be a new favorite in our house. Geena Davis was fabulous - of course she is one smart cookie, she is a member of Mensa (or one of those groups) where you score in the top 1% of the population. She comes across as very intelligent in the show. Like when Donald Sutherland made her speech fade out and she pulled it out beautifully.

The only bummer is that it is up against Amazing Race, and I like that show. Oh well :earboy2:

Yes, my DW and I watched and we loved it! Donald Sutherland's role in the show should be good! Geena Davis was very good as well. We can't wait for next week!

We thought it was great. Wish it wasn't on at the same time as House, though, as we love to watch House.

DH and I loved it. Did anyone else find it amusing the way Geena's husband was treated when he was given a tour of the White House? :rotfl:
My DH said "Hey, that's what Bill will be doing when Hilary is elected." :teeth:

I liked it and will watch it again but I was a little disappointed at how much I had to suspend disbelief to get into it. I just had a tough time believing the attitude of everyone about her resignation. I don't know, it just seems like it's not the place of anyone to tell the vice president to resign... their sole constitutional purpose is to take the place of the president if the president can't fulfill their duties. I just had a hard time with the whole "oh you were just a publicity stunt, we didn't mean for you to ACTUALLY be vice president" thing. I also had a problem with the idea that it would be unethical for her to take the place of the president because her beliefs are not the exact same as his. The whole thing was just not very convincing. I also don't find the childish pranks of Donald Sutherland's character to be convincing (cutting her teleprompter? and the previews for next week, stealing her daughter's diary?)

But I LOVE Geena Davis and was pleasantly surprised by her speech (it was way better written than I expected and said wonderful things) and I think some of the family dynamics they set up will be very interesting, the whole "first gentleman" thing and the ultra conservative daughter. I will definitely watch it again.

My husband was cracking up at those bits! He's all about the food, though; he'd become best buddies with the chef if I became president! :rotfl:

I thought the show was really good and I was glad that the "establishment" had more than one objection to the VP becoming president than just being a woman--like her being an independent and so forth.

I liked it! Sure, a few parts were a bit far fetched, but not too far off the mark.

I loved the parts with the husband. The traditional First Lady role is to run social part of the White House, and you could tell he wanted NOTHING to do with that. I think watching him adjusting to being the first "First Gentleman" is going to be more interesting that seeing her being the first female President.

I taped it last night and watched it while eating lunch. I thought it was pretty good and will probably be taping future episodes (darn scheduling conflicts!!).

I thought it was interesting that the dying President was named after Theodore Roosevelt. TR became president after McKinley died. The main reason he was nominated as VP was because the Republican Party bosses wanted him out as Governor of NY because he was cleaning up the corruption, and they thought he could do less damage to the status quo as VP. Served them right. :teeth:

Loved it! I don't have a problem with being asked to suspend belief. Aren't we asked to do that daily with television? I agree, the biggest kick was when they were showing the new First Gentleman around. "It's, so...pink." All those little digs at Hilary were hysterical too.

I'm hooked. I was torn on whether or not to watch it and I am really glad that I did. I hope it continues to be this good.

I must be alone in this but I HATED it! Acting- bad, writing- bad, plausibilty- really bad. I think it had the potential to be really interesting, but it just seemed flat.

Or maybe it's my irrational dislike for anything with Geena Davis and her singular facial expression acting style. :confused3

You're not totally alone. I had high hopes for this show, but episode 1 was a bit formulaic and completely predictable, especially given all the promos. I think they could have had more drama without showing so much of the 1st episode plugging the show.

I agree it did come across as flat at times, certainly lacking the drama and zest of The West Wing. Some of the writing seemed sophomoric at times and at other times there were some flashes of what might come later as the show matures.

Ms. Davis does need to get rid of the great stone face. It might work for 1 episode, but she seems to have great difficulty communicating emotion with her body language. Donald Sutherland, OTOH, was good at expressing his complete distain for Davis as POTUS as did the former Prez (shoot, even banadaged up and a tube up his nose, that actor was able to communicate more emotion than Davis did the entire show!).

The show has potential and maybe it has to mature some. It's an interesting premise; definitely one whose time has come. I'm glad they didn't pattern Davis after West Wing's Barlet, but they have a lot of work to do to make her believeable in that role. It seemed like they were pushing the "tough" side a bit too much last nite.

I'll continue watching -- for a while.
