Anyone want to share thoughts on Whispering Canyon Cafe

We went for the first time last summer and had a great time! We also enjoyed our dinner. I just made my reservations for next summer!!

Last time I was there was two years ago. The food was o.k. but the experience was fun! Our waitress wasnt that into the whole antics of the place, but a couple of the waiters were great. It was like a dinner show. I would go back just for the fun of it.

WCC is a must do for us every year, my DD7 LOVES it. Pony races, ask for ketchup. See what might happen if you keep asking for refills, or if you ask for a "little more" soda or tea to drink. We always have a blast, and while the food is not gourmet, it is pretty good and very filling. Also, it is one of the least expensive table service breakfasts around. I know the atmosphere is not for everyone, but we love it! :thumbsup2 Give it a try for yourselves if you think you might enjoy it. You never know until you try.

we went in August 2008 for the first time with kids. I just booked a trip for June and the Whispering Canyon Cafe is the only thing that the kids begged about- asking if we could go back to the place with the horses and ketchup. So, it was one of the most memorable things for the kids from our Disney trip. Dh and I also enjoyed it and the we thought the food was good as well. They were very accomodating for dh, who is a picky eater.

I did make reservations again for our trip in June- will it be as much fun the 2nd time around? I don't know.

We had the skillet in Sept. 09 and thought it was disgusting. The meats were gristly and fatty. There were several wings, but I only buy boneless, skinless breasts, so we did not eat them. The corn was left over from lunch--the tiny ears and were replaced with real ones for seconds. The potatoes were cold and the cornbread was hard. I filled up on salad.

I wondered if we asked for more brisket and pork if they would have brought it even though we did not eat the junk they brought? Has anyone sent it back and asked for edible meats?

DS wants to go back next year for free dining and I would not care to unless they brought better meats.

We were just there in December and will not be going back. We had free dining and if I had paid OOP for that meal, I would have been VERY upset.

The salad and cornbread were the best part of the meal. The meat was fatty and just not good.

In a word- YUCK. We went in Sept 09 and regretted our choice. Here's why:

wait time- we waited for over 30 minutes for our ADR, and then they attempted to squeeze our party of 6 into two small round tables pushed together (round tables really don't go together to make one larger table!). We insisted on a "normal" table and they gave us attitude.

Service: Slow. Considering how many people are ordering that skillet, you would think they could speed it up. No creative and fun hijinx, it was the same exact "we need ketchup" joke done over. and over. and over. and of course, the one great big fork. Our kids didn't even find it amusing.

Volume: loudest place we ate at in Disney.

Food: mediocre at best.

Definitely not worth the money.

We had pretty much the same experience last month. The wait time was really long - we arrived 15 minutes before our ADR, and were seated more than 30 minutes later. The WL was decorated for Christmas, so we got to look around for a while, which worked out well.

The food was OK - not bad, but nothing wonderful either. The pasta and the meatloaf were both pretty good. No one got the skillet, so I have no idea if it's any good.

The noise was what killed it for us. I read on here about some of the stuff going on, and thought it would be funny for the kids. Maybe the first or second time, but the 30th time someone hollered for ketchup, even the kids were annoyed.

Others love it though, so give it a try if it sounds like something you'd like

Here's a snippet from my ongoing TR...
"We got a pager but were called pretty quickly. That’s where the “quickly” part ends. We had the slowest, most inattentive service I can ever recall having. The food was okay, but the service really tainted the whole experience. We sat for almost 15 minutes before ever being greeted. I even made eye contact with other servers and bussers, hoping they’d see we needed something. Nope. The food was “meh” (to use a word the tag fairy likes, apparently), but the rest of the experience was down-right annoying."

It was some the worst dining I've ever experienced in WDW, and among the worst anywhere. I usually tell people to try places for themselves, though. Maybe a great server will make all of the difference for you.

We stayed at WL last April on a "last minute" trip. We were able to get in without an ADR for breakfast, and we really enjoyed the food...and thought the atmosphere was fun.

We were there June 2009 for breakfast. It was fun. My boys are asking to go back this year. One of the few they are asking to do again.

By the way, a PP mentioned sharing the skillet - I wouldn't count on that as my understanding from asking our server was that since it is an "all you care to eat" choice, it cannot be shared. My daughter and I wanted to share because neither of us is a big eater and seeing a single platter go out, it looked like plenty for the two of us! Especially since she planned to enjoy the bottomless milkshake. Maybe if we had ordered the skillet we would have enjoyed the food more since that is what people generally rave about.

Sorry - just to clarify you can't "share" one skillet, but if 2 people at the table order it (and each pay for it) they bring it out together in one big skillet. My previous post was a bit confusing on that. We essentially used 2 dining credits to get a big skillet to share.

One more note on the skillet as I saw someone else ask about just requesting a refill of certainl items....we both really loved the Pulled pork and they replenished that as well as our corn. A lot of people seem to have had bad experiences with the meats on the skillet, I loved them! And I am pretty picky about meat, I hate fatty/grisly meats...but I found it all to be delicious and tender!
