Were the lines in the 80's for things like SM and Matthorn 3+ hours long? I SWEAR I can remember standing in lines for certain rides for 3 hours. Does anyone else remember this??? I keep reading here that the worse lines for Splash are an hour etc. And then I remember back to when I stood in line forever.......

I do not remember 3 hour lines, but I remember lots of 90 minute lines for Space Mtn in the late 70's and early 80's, and 30-45 minute waits for Matterhorn.

I went in June 1988. The longest line I remember was for Star Tours, which was maybe an hour. The rest were around 15-20 minutes in line. (Splash was closed when I was there, but if it had been open, I'm sure it would have been about a 45 minute wait).

I remember 2 and 3 hour lines the when I went in 1989. I also went in 1986 and some of the lines seemed really long, but I was still too young to know how long they really were. I know there were rides we didn't go on because the waits were too long. I also remember waiting in line for Space Mountain FOREVER and then thinking I was going to have a heat attack on it. LOL! ( I was only 7)

We went the year that Space Mountain opened. We waited for 2 1/2 hours, but that was the longest line I have ever waited in for any ride ever... The year that Big Thunder opened, we simply didn't ride it.

Me too- we went in summer of 1989, arrived before the gates opened at 7:30, stayed until midnight and still only managed to go on 8 or 9 rides. Even the motorboat cruise had a line of more than an hour. And other years before fastpass I remember 90 - 180 minutes being fairly common. I think fastpass has lowered guests wait-tolerance these days to around an hour, so you just don't see the long waits anymore.

I never waited in 3 hour lines, but I do remember waiting 2 hours for Star Tours. Matterhorn I think was about an hour at the peak of the day (this was in August). Space Mountain was maybe an hour or so at its peak.

We went in the 80's before kids etc. I do remember biggish crowds but not 2 or 3 hours waits. We went in early and rode Space early, I recall only riding it once each trip and in those days one day was enough to see and do everything. There were less rides to do, no Splash, no Toon town, no Indy, no Buzz, no CA

Went in 1988 as a kid and I remember it taking us 11 hours to do the whole park in one day, but ride waits never exceeded 60-90 minutes.

I was really young the first time I went and it was in the late 80's. But, I do remember waiting 3 hours for Indiana Jones when it opened.

I went often in the late 80s- ah...memories.

But yes, I remember waiting in a 2 hour+ line for Star Tours in April 1987. But, we were teenagers and it was fun waiting in line with a group of friends.

I remember going in June 1989 and waiting a good 90-120 minutes for Splash Mtn. Again, fun being in line with friends. Space Mtn ALWAYS had big waits.

Well I don't remember any 3 hour lines because we simply wouldn't wait in them then either. But I clearly remember ropes before you even hit the main queue on Space Mountain with signs that said 3 hours from this point and seeing people backed up beyond the sign outside. I also remember waiting in a 2 hour line and getting busted for riding it multiple times and making our parents wait when in fact we only rode it once.

I went to DisneyWorld once in 1989. We went in October, which I think was value season.

The lines were not bad except for the one to Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mt. Splash Mountain was closed, or they were building it still. I remember MGM was practically empty.

I was in 7th grade when Star Tours opened so I was pretty young But if I remember there were signs up stating something to the effect of "The wait from this point on is 3 hours," and the line was past that sign.

I know we waited at least 2 hours but not sure if it was really 3 whole hours.

I remember this too! It was probably the summer of 1989 or 1990.

That's funny you mention that. We have gotten so spoiled by fastpass that we simply WILL not wait in a standby line unless it is under 30 mins. I have seen waits as long as 2 hours or more even now. I told my mom just this past week when we were there "remember when we didn't know any better and we HAD to wait in line". I mean back then there was no choice. You just did it! I don't really remember waiting more than an hour or so but I might have. My first trip to Disney was in 78 I think or maybe 76 but I did go in the late 70's and 80's (that was when I was a teen and early 20's). Boy do I remember long waits and to be honest I don't even like going to other parks anymore cuz I am so spoiled by fast pass. And sorry but I am not "paying" for the prviliege either! LOL (ie Universal, Six Flags etc)
