Anyone used the Kennel at SW

Dizzi, I haven’t used them yet, but I talked to the actual kennel at SW and it sounds decent, but dogs are in cages all day – you will need to come in half way through the day and walk your pooch. We are staying at Portofino and Royal Pacific, but I am worried about leaving the dog in the room (he is a large breed, very young and quite active and it would be his first “outing”) – I am concerned he’ll tear something up in the room and was thinking about putting him up in the kennel. We’ll be in DC one day and were advised that DC staff will give us a ride to the kennel, wait for us to walk the dog and take us back. Sounds like a very good service, but I don’t like the fact that dogs are in cages ALL day. I don’t know whether you have a large or small dog, but I believe larger dogs are kept outside with no air conditioning. Looking forward to someone, who's used kennels before, share his/her experience!

Mine is a small dog, and he is kept in a cage when we are not at home. i will post her about how it was when we get back.

Hi,

We just got seasonal passes for Seaworld and stopped in at the kennel on Friday. The park was pretty crowded, but there was available space at the kennel. The kennel is not a large place, so I would be worried about them having space, though they had it when I looked in around 12pm that day. The place was indoor with air-conditioning and yes it does have cages. They have a ground cage on the concrete for the larger dogs (they said they wouldn't put my two BT's in one togther in those cages), but they had a meduim size cage that was off the ground that they would do that in. They also had one size smaller than that. You will have to walk your dog as no place does that for you, not even Epcot anymore from what I heard and they had a little area around the back that you could walk your pet at. They told us the cost was $5 per pet for pass holders.
By the way, it's didn't smell and looked clean. They will provide water for your pet, but if you want anything else like toys or food you'll need to provide it. You must bring updated proof of all vacaintaions including bordatella ( kennel cough).

Royal Pacific Resort use to have a pet service that they could provide you the number for that would send someone out to walk your dog. But, I agree if your nervous about leaving them alone in a hotel room bring them with you.
We brought a baby gate and put our two BT's in the bathroom while we went to the park for a few hours. With that front of the line access we saw all we needed to of Islands Of Adv. in just 4 hours.

Now if we can just find a service there in Orlando that actually comes to your resort and babysits them for the day as well as walks them. <BG>

Thanks for detailed report on the kennels. Portofino’s website states there is a dog sitting service available, so I am hoping for the time we are in Portofino, I would not need to use a kennel. But we’ll probably end up using one while we are at RPR since we’ll be at DC for the entire day. You mentioned that there are larger cages on concrete – so they are outside, correct? Our pup would definitely end up in a large one (we have a Dogo Argentino).

The baby gate was a good idea, but we’d need a brick wall for ours , we were thinking about a crate, but, although crate-trained, we do not believe in crating… He is definitely used to being in his own room during the day and does extremely well. I was just not sure if new surrounding, noises, and smells would set him off and he’ll tear the room up – I don’t want to pay for RPR refurbishment!

When you say BT, do you mean bullterrier or boston terrier? Have you seen larger dogs in the hotel? I don’t want to ruin it for the lap dogs by bringing in a large dog. We want to be as considerate of others as we possibly can. Thanks again for sharing!

When I worked there a few years ago all of the kennels were indoors in air conditioning. The floor is concrete because it's easiest to keep clean for the safety of your pet. Everything in the kennel room is washed each night at closing and it's very clean.

Just back, the kennel was very nice !

Everything is just as mmketeer said but even though they asked us for dates of shots they didnt ask us for the proof althoough we did have it with us just in case
