There are some reusable swimming diapers in One Step Ahead. Has anyone used them? Little Swimmers (disposable) are kinda pricey.

Thanls so much

Yes I used them when my DD5 was an infant. To me they are basically the same thing as the disposable. The only thing would be if your child made a "mess" (if you know what I mean) and you would have to clean it up and wash them. Disposable you just take off and throw away. I did like them though. I'm not sure if they would be more or less in price, but I found mine at Target. They are in the infant section by the undershirts, etc. (at least the use to be!):D

I'm going to go out on a limb here annd assume (ahem) that everyone reading this is a parent that is used to dealing with diapers and their contents.

I used the reusable ones as I had a little pool the girls(both in diapers) would be in several times a day. No way was I going to go thru $20-$30 worth of swim diapers a week just hanging around the house.

If your baby urinates it's easy to wash the reusable swim diaper, But if your baby poops while in the water, or poops after he gets out of the water when his skin and the diaper are still wet you have a really really gross mess that is not a quick plop into the toilet. It is very messy. It was messy at home. It would be worse on vacation using the toilet that an uncountable people used to try to flush the poop off of your swim diaper.

I hope that wasn't too graphic for anyone. I still used the washable kind at home, but I used the disposable ones on vacation. I think Luv's had a swim diaper that was less expensive the the huggies. I'd make sure I had enough because you know they will be outragou$ly priced down there

I completely agree with AuntMinnie! That's what I was basically trying to say without being so graphic. However, that now gives you a better picture of why disposable is much better for vacations. I would also do the disposable for vacations (or out-of-the-home trips!) and then do the reusable for home. O.K...after this thread I've somehow lost my appetite for breakfast! (Just kidding ;) )

I agree with the above posters, at home I used re-usable and away I always used the disposable swim diaper. Saves the time and inconvenience of washing even without the #2 issue! If your child is a bit older and $$ is an issue you could use the re-usable swimmies if you know the childs "schedule" and time things right. Personally I never took the chance on vacation.

I also wanted to mention that Target, Babies are Us and many of the department stores have the re-usable swim diapers at a fraction of the cost of One Step Ahead - and no shipping charges. Target had some cute ones for girls with a matching long top to make it a cute 2 peice bathing suit. I got my new neice one top with two different matching (swim diaper) bottoms. Have your friends and family watch for those swimmy diaper coupons and go to the grocery on double coupon day!!

I've used them and have to agree with the other posters. They are a pain to clean, if you only bring one, you will likely end swimming for the day if the child poops. And if you are the type who really wants to wash it out good in hot water, you'll need to do a load of laundry (some parents may be comfortable with a good rinse in the toilet and sink using mommy's shampoo. Others want anything that has touched poop to go through a decontamination process worthy of the CDC).

If you are going to use one, bring two. Now it isn't so cheap any more. Though Targets are much cheaper.

A little off topic, but what sizes do these swim diapers come in?

if they are just in the water in the reusable diaper then they are unlikely to soil it - in much the same way that babys don't mess in the bath - they seem to have an instinct which tells them this is not a good time. Of course, I would still use the diaper just in case, but I would be surprised if it was dirty.

However, if you are planning on putting the swim diaper on the baby and then spending the day beside the pool, with baby in and out of the water all day, then it is quite likely it will become soiled and then you will have a mess on your hands.

BevS97,

Your kids don't poop in the tub? Lucky you! Mine seem to have been born without that particular instinct.

(If cleaning a swim diaper is bad, cleaning poop from the tub is a lot worse. But I've seen them clean poop from a pool, that's really a nightmare.)

I wanted to say the same thing because my children have also done that in the tub! I was afraid someone would think I had strange kids! ;) :Pinkbounc

I bought the ones from One Step Ahead, and loved them. We have a pool, as does my mom and dad, so we got a lot of use out of them. If my dd had an accident, it wasn't far to a washing machine, and we had several pair. It was a lot cheaper than the disposable ones! We bought ours a little big, because they have both velcro and a tie on them, and you can just tie them a little tighter if they're a little big, so we stretched the amount of time our dd could wear them

nope - she never has! Or in the pool for that matter (although we always use a swim nappy just in case...)
I am sure I was told that it was very rare for kids to poop in water by someone who ought to know.

I remember looking thru when buying them, they has many sizes that went from 8 lbs up to 40 lbs.

I bought mine from a discount store (like wal*mart) and they washed and lasted fine.
