Anyone used Disney's trip insurance lately?

We have a summer trip planned. We purchased insurance directly through Disney and its provider. I know Disney is generous with its own cancellation policy and refunds.

My concern is whether the insurance obtained through Disney will cover my separately purchased Delta airfare and tickets to Universal if the Disney Resort I am booked at is closed. I have no idea how long it would take us to make new arrangements - it could be more than a year - so credits do not appeal to me.

Anyone used the actual insurance sold through Disney for things like this recently?

You can check the policy here: https://affinitytravelcert.com/document/pdfs/DSPParks-LandingPage01.html

The policy only covers non-refundable payments so, if you are offered a credit, it most likely would not qualify for insurance reimbursement. You could always call Aon and ask - the phone number is on the last page of the coverage document.

If Disney cancels your trip, you may also be entitled to a refund of the insurance premium as long as you haven't filed any claims on the policy.

I know the DCL policy only covers components purchased directly through DCL; not sure if WDW is the same. My guess would be no, those separately purchased items would not be covered. At any point did you ADD the value of those items to your policy?

IF they are included in your plan's coverage, I'd be surprised if either of those would be reimbursed simply because a WDW resort is closed. If Universal is closed, yes (again assuming the US tickets were added to the policy). If the airline cancels or significantly changes your flight, there may be vouchers offered in which case airfare would not be refundable either; but I believe there are some new rules out about refunds for flights so you'll need to check on it. Though again, it's unlikely the flights would be covered simply due to the resort being closed. But as PPs suggest, you really need to check the details of your policy.

Sorry your trip is impacted, I hope you get to reschedule.

I hope we get to go. I believe a good argument could be made that the park is closed due to a natural disaster - that being the the covid pandemic of course. Many disaster declarations have been made by various levels of government and a number characterize it this way.

Did you add them to your insurance? If not, then nope.

And frankly the possibility of any travel insurance covering closures for a pandemic is probably 0. They generally have wording in the policies to keep from covering in such a situation. Go to that link, click your state, read your policy.

If Disney is closed, so is Universal, so you'll want to contact them to see what can be done about tickets, and Delta will have their own policies (many of them mandated by the DOT).

I read through it for my state, and while there is no wording for pandemic, there is this.

Benefits are not payable for any loss due to, arising or resulting from:
....15. failure of any tour operator, Common Carrier, or other travel supplier, person or agency to provide the bargained-
for travel arrangements;

....19. directly or indirectly, the actual, alleged or threatened use, discharge, dispersal, seepage, migration, escape, release or exposure to any hazardous biological, chemical, nuclear radioactive weapon, device, material, gas, matter or contamination.

The insurance only covers the Disney package. The airline and the other tickets are separate from that. I would check with Delta direct as they are making some concession regarding refunds. At the very least, they have extended the time you can use the ticket for 2 years.

I'd also call Universal direct as they have adjusted some policies on tickets too.

A pandemic is not a natural disaster - it's a pandemic. Two very different things.
