I'm a little timid about these things, I was wondering what the deal is with it? Kind of like eBay except for airfare and lodging?? What are peoples experiences with this?

Thanks for the info, I appreciate the comments.

I love skyauction! Last year we got a week at Summer Bay for $250 including all fees!

I have won an auction for our next trip in May 2006 for $255 at Orbit One !

They are excellent to deal with.

hth!

Howdy,
We've used SkyAuction twice now, once for Branson, MO and once for Williamsburg, VA and have been very happy with the service. Just be sure you CAREFULLY read what you are bidding on because starting this year, some resorts have added an additional "seasonal" fee during the summer months. So, depending on when and where you are bidding for, you might be able to get condo accomodations cheaper elsewhere. For example, the seasonal fee was approx. $200, plus the $195 "service" fee they tack on and the winning bid. Not all resorts have the seasonal fee and they will note it on the auction.

Both resorts that we dealt with treated us like any other guest and we could use all of their resort features. We were asked if we wanted to do the timeshare tour and both times we did, receiving free tickets to Busch Gardens and for a show in Branson. However, it isn't mandatory. We paid a 1/3 of the price at Williamsburg we would have paid if we'd booked through the resort website and 1/2 of what the timeshare renters where charging!

The only downside I can see of this is you pay for it upfront and if your trip needs to be cancelled, you're out the money. Other than that, you'll have access to some wonderful resorts at a fraction of the price! Oh, and if you decide to bid and win, call the resort and make a room request....near the pool, 1st floor, etc. Do your resort research as some of these resorts are HUGE and you may be far from the pool, clubhouse. They can't promise but our request was honored at one of the places so it can't hurt to ask. Also, it just gave me a peace of mind that the reservation has been processed and everthing was in order.

I have heard some negative reports about dealing with SkyAuction but they all seemed to deal with bidding on airfare. Hope things work out for you and have a great day!

The one time I used them was for an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic. I am SO glad that I brought my confirmation with me - the resort didn't have us in the computer. Luckily, they had space and we were accommodated. I have a feeling it was a local problem because a phone call confirmed our confirmation.

We did a timeshare talk while there to get free massages and the guy didn't believe how cheap our stay was.

To echo other posters, be sure it's what you want and what fees are in addition to your bid. I check tripadvisor.com for reviews of the resorts, too.

Go to the Orlando attractions board here on the DIS. Lots of people there have used skyauction and I haven't read one bad thing about them.
