We have a sams membership and were encorraged to upgrade to the plus for the coupons ect. Anyone here done that? Dis you save money?

I have never seen anything that I needed using their coupons that was worth the money for the extra membership. :confused3

We also belong to Costco, and they give us coupons every month for free!

I upgraded once to the plus membership. It was NOT worth it. Coupons were not on the foods I use. Sometimes the savings didn't show up in the ticket either. I shop Sam's regularly but only with the $40 membership.

I signed up for it when it was on a special price and used it to save on a warranty. At the price I signed up for (which I was told was the yearly price), I thought it could end up being a good deal. But then the price for it went up and I'm not going to do it again. I have saved money on various things that I normally purchase, but I don't think it's that great of a deal.

I am a 11 year costco member. Went to Executive membership - had 3 kids.

I just enrolled in the Amex Costco card program where I get 3% on gas and a EXTRA FREE 1 year warranty on all eletronic purchases at costco.

I normally get back a few hundred a year and costco send monthly coupon books no matter what

The things they have on "special" are not things I would buy so I would never save money using it.

The woman they have at my Sam's wandering the registers trying to up-sell them is really annoying. I have told her No Thank You 4 or 5 times in the same appeal conversation and she keeps at it. I wrote an email to the Sam's to complain about her.

I got a free plus membership for one year back in Jan...I have gotten my money's worth out of it.

Maybe one of these days I will actually try to use it.

not worth it for me - it's $60.00 and $40.00 to save a few dollars and get into the store earlier.

I rather pay just the $40 for the regular membership which I split with a friend of mine.

I would love a COSTCO here. But no such luck, nearest one is 4 hours away.

We did it only because they offered it at a discounted price, and with the plus membership you get an extra year free on an extended warranty so the extra cost was a wash (I was planning to purchase a 3-year warranty anyway).

I upgraded to the plus and got the extra year extended warranty on a tv. When I decided that it wasn't worth the cost and went back to the old membership, they told me anything I had bought with the extra extended warranty goes back to the original extended warranty time period. That did not make me happy.

They offer all of these great coupons for things I would normally buy when you sign up. The actual coupons you get later were not for items I would buy. So I cancelled.

My husband did it on the end of our membership last year. We saved 8% on prescriptions. Seeing as his prescription insurance changed, this made a big difference. Ours renews in February, we didn't at that time, but will probably this month. Hubby takes four prescriptions and my son one. Two of them are in the $170 range. We should break even and get the extra benefits.

Wow thanks for all the responces!:thumbsup2

Sorry it took so long to get back. For some reason the posts never got sent to my droid:confused3.

I dont think I will bother. We dont get our meds from Sams as it is too far away to go regular. My DH gets gas at sams and I go for a big shopping every 2 to 8 weeks. my kids eat enough olives and applesacue to pay for my membership:rotfl: coupons didnt look great but you never can tell. The order and pick up would really help DH get groceries on his way home and eleminate my trips so that would save about 3 gal of gas each trip.

Careful on buying tires at Sams. I got Goodyear tires at sams Jan 2010 by Aug inspection they needed to be replaced!!! I went back and they said there was no warrentee:scared1: I knew sams didnt offer an exteneded warrentee like you can get from other stores but it never occured to me that Goodyear would be no warrentee for less than 6,000 miles/year . $1100 down the drain!:sad2: A friend told me to call the good year store. They had me come in and gave me a different set of tires at a DEEP discount (almost free) for my trouble. lesson learned. When they say no warrentee they dont me no Sams warrentee they mean go off the property and you are out of luck!

No Cosco for two to three hours drive. Would love to try them someday though.

We also did it when we bought a TV to get the extra warranty. We have never used any of the coupons offered. We just renewed with the regular membership.

I have been a business member with Sam's for over 15yrs. Now I also get at least 7% cash back with Sam's and Walmart on everything I buy online. Like an idiot I bought the Plus Membership last year and it only pays 1%. With 7% I average around a $100 a month cash back. Not sure I can post the link here but if you would like to know I can share it. :)

Costco is dropping American Express and going to Visa April 2016

I upgraded to the plus. When I renewed last year I had a $25 gift card given. This year I've earned $20 in membership credits by using it. I mainly bought it for the extended warranty on electronics but it's paid for itself and Ive used the coupons when it is something I need.

I upgraded a year ago but 1% is all I get back and I barely cover the $55 dollar cost.

Now I get 7% cash back on everything when I buy online at Sam's. I use a website that has Sam's, Walmart, Target ect. and get cash back on everything I am going to buy anyways. I got $10 just for signing up for free. I will list the website here, if I'm aloud but if not then message me and I'll send it to you.

We did the PLUS membership one year. At the end of our year they sent us a nice report that showed how much we had saved--and it wasn't as much as the membership cost. So we have never renewed.

On a side note, our Sams has self-checkout and one of the reasons I enjoy using it is not having to listen to the regular cashier try to up-sell me a PLUS membership or credit card.

Ugh! I am sick of Sam's Club cashiers trying to shove the Plus membership down my throat every time I try to check out. I tried it at a reduced rate for the last few months of my membership, and only after they insisted I could get my money back if I didn't save more money. After three trips to Sam's Club, I have asked at customer service each time for some numbers, and each time they have stated their system is down. I did not get a report in the mail. They are so pushy that I am ready to cancel my membership. The cashier last time stated - "I can't tell you how much you have saved, but you should do it - I wouldn't lie to you." Oh bother.
