Like Carbonite.com? I have too many pics to put on CD's! and my harddrive is acting up... anyone use any of these places?

Never rely on an online site as your only backup. What would you do if they go out of business and close the site, if their server drives failed, if their offices burn to the ground, etc? Remember that your data with them is still on a hard drive and it is not a matter of if it fails, but when it fails. You also likely have no way to know how well they backup their drives. A DVD burner is next to nothing these days, so that would be your best route.

I store my pics on 2 websites, plus an external hard drive and 2 dvd's stored in seperate locations...

Hubby swears up and down that the life span of a cd isn't all that, either. Plus, what if you scratch, drop, or misplace. We have a dedicated, external hard drive that is for my pictures only. It only gets turned on when we need it. Retrieval from this source would be more likely than from a damaged or outdated cd. Consider. Ours is a Western Digital 320 gig drive. We found it for about $150 a while back.

It'd take forever to store my RAWs on a website, and I'm not comfortable doing that anyway.

DVDs are the way to go - the burners are insanely cheap and the media is awfully cheap, too. (Much cheaper per meg than CDs.) The media only has to last as long as it takes to get BluRay or HDDVD blanks to be similarly cheap. :thumbsup2

Thanks!

Since my hard drive is dying, I am doing two things, the 30 day free trail on Carbonite ... which is takes days :( AND I just got an external Western Digital 160 gig drive for 80 bucks. I have nowhere near that amount of data, so this is the best- quickest, safest for now.

I print all my important pics, but I still like a backup of them too.
