We have a rental apartment without central heating and have been hearing that these are cheaper to run that regular space heaters? How large of an area can they heat?

I have 3 Delonghi (sp) heaters they are the best they heat up a rather large rooms quickly and make the room very toasty/hot looking for a sale to purchase another. :)

I have two Delongin (sp) heaters for the past few years. I use them in average size bedrooms, they work great. My electric bill went up some but not that much.

I bought this one Bionaire BH1551-U Micathermic Convection Heater with Fan for my first floor. It is semi open floor plan and I had to keep it running 24/7 to keep it warmer downstairs, and my electric bill went up quite a bit. I won't be using it this winter, I will buy a few more Delongin.

Assuming you are referring to the oil filled electric heaters, they are going to cost the same as the non oil filled. The only difference is the oil filled is going to store and release heat over a longer period of time.

So, the regular electric heaters are going to turn on and produce heat, then turn off and cool to the touch quickly.
The oil filled will turn on, slowly heat produce heat, and slowly cool to the touch.

We use an oil filled space heater to heat our finished basement. That thing works like a charm! And heats the whole space evenly. I like it so much better than a triditional space heater. I don't notice a great increase in our electri bill when we use it.
