Anyone use a lot of wire in their scrapbooks?

I haven't ever used wire in my scrapbooks, I'm just now getting into chalk, eyelets and brads but my dd is bugging me about trying wire projects. DD has good intentions but she really doesn't get much scrapping done (she's 17 yrs and a typical teenager, burning the candle at both ends so it isn't surprising) so if I buy the tools and wire she won't use it much. What I'm wondering is if everyone really likes to embellish their pages with it or is it something that I probably won't use much? I hate to invest in it and then just let it sit in my scrapping storage area.

I have not used wire yet either,but would like to try it. I don't like to spend $$ on tools and stuff though-for instance I did not buy the eyelet anywhere punch and setter-I improvised and used a very sharp drill bit to make a hole (thank you dh!) and then I just whacked it good with the hammer when it was in place! I think this will only work with the plain eyelets though, the fancy shaped ones will get distorted.

Anyways I am thinking I will just get the very fine wire and free form my shapes. I think that scissors should be able to cut the fine stuff. We have pliers around if I need them as well.
So I am going to try and get away with buying any of the extra tools! I think I will go with a spool of silver to start with-it seems to go with everything.

I don't use wire a lot in my books. Just as a few accents or to tie things together. I bought the 12 pack of wire to give myself a variety of colors but I think I have only used the metallic colors and the greens. I use an old pair of scissors to cut the wire and a skewer from an old bar b que set for winding it. I just recently bought the jig, thinking that if I had the jig I would use the wire more. I have played with the jig but I haven't made anything for my books yet. I think for me, the tool worth investing in is the pliers sort of thing that has the plastic pinchers for straightening the wire again after you have made a mess of it.

I love the look of wire. I have only used it on one layout so far, but I really love the effect. The page i used it on was a masculine page and it really helped with the "industrial" look I was going for. I also experimented with writing names in wire and it was surprisingly simple. I'll definitely be using a lot of it in my layouts. But I'm a sucker for embellishments!

Are you using a jig to shape the names? I think you guys have a great idea in buying some wire but not the tools and improvising there. I think I might get some wire at the next crop and let dd give it a try. (Or more likely, give it a try myself after it sits around here awhile waiting for dd to have time, lol)

I did the wire by hand. I was using 24 guage wire, so it was very flexible. I was amazed at how easily I created a word and at how good it looked. I've since bought a little jig and a wire writer-- it was on sale at AC Moore -- and I'm experimenting with creating shapes to use on my layouts. I think a wire accent looks really cool on a page. I just created a layout in which I used the spiral paper clips that they have at Target. it looks *great* and talk about easy! You can't beat ready made!
