Anyone use a credit credit to pay college tuition and then pay off credit card?

Here in NJ the 529 is kind of an honor system. You can withdraw the funds at any time, but should have the receipts to back up any withdrawals. We have no state benefit tax wise, so only the IRS would be interested in auditing your withdrawals.

Fortunately the colleges I have dealt with thus far all accepted credit card pyments without any fees. And even better, my town allows you to pay the property tax bills via credit card without any fee.

Our dd21 is a junior at a Private Christian university in VA. We have paid our part of her college (after her school loans) on our Disney Visa. It a big benefit on something we have to pay anyway. We just write a check to the Visa each month as we are on a payment plan for 5 mos with the college per semester.

My son goes to a private school in New York State. His school charges a2.75% fee if you pay using a credit card. We have never done that because we don't have a card that earns us more than that. His school also only accepts Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. They do not accept Visa, which I find is kind of odd.

Our daughters college charges 5% I believe
I had wanted to pay with my disney visa but can't with the fees! I can however use it for books ordered from amazon:thumbsup2

I charged my dd's college to the credit card we always use and pay off. (also in NY) I always make a special payment in the amount of college costs (tuition, books) just to make it easier to find if necessary for auditing issues.

We had our 529 paid directly to us, not the school.

For the schools that don't charge the fee.....they are eating the 3% the credit company charges. I'd rather see tuition 3% less than some people getting miles or points. JMO

I do it too. My Dd's school and my school do not charge any additional fees for credit card payments:thumbsup2

Our sons' university will not accept a credit card for undergraduate tuiton. Too bad since we have TWO kids at the same university! That would have been alot of Disney rewards dollars!
