Has anyone booked with a Free QS Dining Pin, and then upgrade to Regualr dining? I know I read about it somewhere. If so, what was the cost difference? I had heard that it was $10 per adult and $2 per child. Is this correct? I am asking because I just spent way toooo long on the phone with a very difficult to understand CM....She had to redo the reservation twice because she did not understand me...now I know this is not the norm. I usually have a very good experience with CMs. Anyway, when she finally had the reservation straightened out (booked 2 rooms with a PIN) I asked to upgrade the FREE QS to Regular Dining....she said OK and then gave this strange figure that was wayyyy more than the price I thought, and she did not understand how to break down her upgrade difference per person for me. She was nice and put me on hold(15 minutes!) to find out how to give me that amount, only to return with the same total upgrade cost and no breakdown. I ended up thanking her for her time and said I would have to call back.....anyone have a similar experience???

As a general rule: When there is a communication issue, it is best to politely end the phone call. Then call again. Unless something very very very strange happens you will get a different person. Lots of mistakes/misunderstandings happen even when you can communicate well, even more when you don't. Call back and go over everything with a different CM, you may find a problem.

Is the total vacation more than you thought it should be, or were you given a number with and without the upgraded dining plan. As I said before many things can get misunderstood without either person realizing it, it could be something else. Such as, frequently numbers are discussed and compared and suddenly the vacation is $120 more than the person thought - wallah insurance is included (they often don't tell you about it, but the system automatically adds it). Let us know just what your dates, guests/ages (per room), type of tickets, etc and maybe we can help you find out if something went wrong.

The upgrade cost is $10-$15 (I don't remember exactly how much but there is a difference depending on season)/adult/day. So if you were going on a 5 day vacation with 2 adults you are looking at atleast 100 dollars for the upgrade.

Well, I just got off the phone with another CM that said my Free QS PIN ends on Aug 14th and we are checking out on the 16th...so he said we would need to pay for the last night of regular dining...and that the cot to upgrade from QS to Regular in August is $16 and $3...NOT 10 and 2....with my family of 4 , 3 adults(son is 15) and 1 child it is almost $500 to upgrade and pay full price for the last day! That is no deal for me.....

Have you thought of making 2 seperate reservations.Make your last 2 days seperate so you could still use the free dinning without paying a ton for the last 2 days?

It might be a pain in the butt, but you could check out on the 15th then do a room only for the 16th. Your meal credits are good through midnight on the day of check out, if that helps. However doing that you run the risk of having to change rooms - from what i have read on here people usually don't have to change but it does occasionally happen. That would drop the added dining cost over $150.

Yeah that is alot of $$ to upgrade. I think you will enjoy the CS plan. Where are you staying?

Thanks for the ideas....I have taken them into consideration. We can go on vacation almost any time in August, but I have a PIN until the 14th, and I am not too sure the family going with us can change dates.....at this point I may switch our vacation to the end of the month and pray for free dining for the public....Does that sound nuts!? Free dining is actually what we(and MANY other DISers) wanted all along....The room cost is lower as well at the end of August... ahhhh the frustration!

KELLY...yes it's a lot for us and the family going with us...no ressie yet but planning on any of the Values...don't care which. I stayed in Sports and Movies in the past so maybe try for Pop this time...I am sure the QS plan is fine, but my husband and the other family really have their heart set on table service...we have a few first timers going....and my kids remember going during free dining in the past and want to go back to the places we went to last trip...we'll just have to see what happens...

The upgrade is $15 b/c the summer is considered a peak time. On Aug. 15th, the upgrade changes to $10 per adult b/c it is the less busy season. The dates are on mousesavers if you want to look at them.

There is always a lot of talk here about when is the last day for the codes. A lot of people have gotten their code as long as they check in by the last day, which would be 8/14. I would keep calling until you get a CM who will do this for you. Some CMs says you have to check out by that date, but I think they are wrong.

When we did free dining last year, we checked out 3 days after the promo code ended. However because we checked in prior to the last code day, the promo was applied for our entire visit. The same should be true for you- I would call again and talk to someone else. Also, we upgraded from qs to reg dining- 2 adults, 2 kids for 7 nights was $158 extra

Call back - try again. FD requires you to book before the last day. In your case, this would be August 14th. However, FD will be for the DURATION of your stay (up to 10 or 14 days - can't remember now).

Note however, if you do resort hopping that will require a separate rez, and won't work.

To figure out your exact numbers, start by going online and plan 3 vacations (at rack rate) for your exact dates, tickets, etc.

a) Vacation WITHOUT Dining
b) Vacation with Quick Service Dining
c) Vacation with Basic Dining

The math becomes...

TOTAL = (C-B) + A

Subtract the difference between the two dining quotes. That will be how much more it will take to upgrade. The quote without dining will be the quote with free Quick service.

Note that the quotes online do not include insurance, and the ones done over the phone typically will include them - so either add that or ask for no insurance quotes.

OP here...2 CM's said that "personal" codes don't have the same rules as "general" codes. therefor, on my personal Free QS dining code, travel must be complete by August 14th and no later....

We are going August 10-21 and we used the QS dining pin. We had no problem upgrading and the free QS was for the duration of our trip. It did cost us 15 per day to upgrade per person. 11 nights at a total of 495 to upgrade for 3 adults. I would try another CM and check.
