We are booked (through Virgin) at ASMo. Since booking, we spent a night at CBR and now wish to upgrade to a moderate, without paying Virgin's amendment fee. Has anyone successfully done this direct with Disney in advance of arriving? If anyone upgraded once at the resort, was it a painful process?

TIA

hi, if you are upgrading then the holiday should cost more so you will not have to pay a amendment fee. You pay a fee if the cost is lower.

You may find that Virgin will waive the £25 each amendment fee if the holiday is going to cost you more.
I have amended my forthcoming holiday twice now and haven't been charged due to the increase in cost. You will be put through to an 'off shore' call centre but they are very good and from what dealings I have had with them seem to be able to waive the fee for certain exceptions.
Disney will only ask you to speak with your agent as the contract is with Disney and the TA.

Ive had the same experience, virgin usually waive the fee if an extra cost is involved.

Also im not sure that you would be able to do so direct through Disney - when we were there last time they mentioned they only get the room assignments sent over from Disney 4 days before?!

You can definitely upgrade with Disney even if you have booked through a TA (including Virgin). Lots of people have done this but I think they waited until they arrived at WDW to do so :)

Sorry what i meant was i dont think you can do it far in advance direct through Disney. Atleast this is what i was told in May :confused3

With VH I have upgraded the room a number of times, Contemporary to a TOWER, Poly to a Lagoon view, Royal Pacific to a pool view.

They have never charged a fee, but it always has invloved an extra cost so presume they get commission on that.

I've been in Dublin the last couple of days, so tanks for all the replies. We're going to ring VH & see what they want to charge us & go from there. I'll let you all k now how I get on!

OK, so the amendments line couldn't actually do an amendment because it is the week-end so they don't have access to that part of the system & I need to ring back Monday! Whilst on hold, a nice recordeed message says at the end of the call I should be offered the opportunitry to give "feedback", I wasn't offered so asked & very reluctantly put t hrought to an answermachine, where I could vent my frustration at not being able to make an amendment on the amendment lkine. Only upside is that I think I may have got my Disney ref. out of the girl, so will try CRO direct tomorrow - too drained after the footie to do it today!

I'm looking at doing this myself, booked into CBR with Virgin for the last week of my holiday but am looking to change to the Boardwalk - will ask about this when checking in as Virgin don't have a contract for the Boardwalk.

They haven't charged me an amendment fee (and i was halving my total cost!) Needless to say i didn't remind them :thumbsup2

Good luck
and please let us know how you get on

Hope you enjoyed yourself in Dublin

Virgin wanted over £700!!! The difference in price from the brochure was £160. They wanted to recalculate the whole holiday, remove our FV discount etc....oddly enough we told them not to worry, we'll give our $$ direct to Disney. Once we get our travel docs. I'll give CRO a call & see if I can do it before we arrive, otherwise it will just mean a slight detour to go to ASMo to upgrade & move to POR. Why is life never straight forward?

Thats outrageous and not very prudent on their part. Sorry about the hassle for you,
Claire xx

That is ridiculous. If I were you I would call back and s/w someone else to try and save you the hassle when you arrive.
I called last week as I wanted to change from the Ritz-Carlton to the Grand Floridian (we only have 3 nights in Orlando and wanted to be on site). The first person I s/w tried to charge me £900 extra !!! But when Icalled back I got the right figures, since confirmed in writing, with my FV 10% also calculated.
