Anyone try ticktubes?

I was bit twice this week by deer ticks and have seen several on my dog already and it's still winter! I've been reading about ticktubes, but they are expensive and I wanted to know if they work before I buy. I'm worried someone in my family will get Lymes disease.

You can make them yourself with toilet paper tubes and either cotton balls or dryer lint. Buy a can of spray containing Permetryin .5% (but no deet) and spray the dryer lint or cotton balls. Allow to dry. Do this outside but not near flowers that attract honey bees as it will kill them Stuff the center third of the toilet paper roll. (Wear gloves)

Scatter your rolls where mice will find them and carry the lint back to their nests. Basically you are doing tick control on mice!

For myself, I just call Orkin and have my yard treated. With two dogs I quickly tired of the tick scene and occasionally would get one attaching to me as I garden and enjoy my outdoor property almost all year long.

I also frequently have deer eating my flowers and gardens right by my house, mice in my outdoor kitchen, squirrels and groundhogs and fox, all spotted in my back area. I am in a suburb, kind of near the edge of country and farmland.

I would use Frontline on my dogs and use it year round. We tried using other brands but my dogs would have skin reactions to them. ( I already lost one dog to Lyme disease). As for humans, use a spray and/or check yourself for ticks every day. Everytime you feel a itch examine that area!

I don't like to use Frontline on my dog due to a baby crawling on him all the time. We live in an area with a very high Lyme's rate so I'm going to give the tubes a try. I've read good reviews on Amazon. Why do you have to use the tubes - can't use just set the cotton balls around the yard?

I think the idea is keep the cotton dry so mice will take it to the nests.
