Anyone try surfing at TL ???????

Thank you so much for the link to the threads :thumbsup2 :goodvibes It's not too late we are going in July and maybe again in Oct.

Thanks,:cool1:

We did the TL surfing lessons in April (me and kids - DH took video). I am a former athlete (former being the operative word here) I actually didn't realize how out of shape I am now until I tried this - AND then saw the pictures!! By the last wave I could hardly lift my arms! We did it for the kids 10th bday and they are all good swimmers/athletic and had no trouble at all. It was really great and I'd say it's an experience that is worth the $$$ - we all got up on the board (even me!). Only drawback for us that day was that it was a little cool and overcast (mid April) once we were wet, if we were out of the water, we were cold. I think if I ever did this again, I'd do it in the summer. AND - the time you need to arrive isn't always 5:45 - we found this out the hard way - the arrival time can be later depending on sunrise. When we did this, TL was scheduled to open at 9am (it was during Easter week) but the surfing class didn't start until 7 am. We really thought we would need to get there by 6 (and we tried), but we ended up getting there at around 6:05 (still pretty dark out at that time) - which turned out to be 40 min early. I did try calling TL to confirm the timing the day before but no one could tell me for sure - so we figured we'd better be early rather than end up missing anything! And you do need to get transportation (we had our car which was good - we took a short nap while waiting for the rest of the people to arrive) over to TL in the morning since it's too early to take the bus!

My husband did the surfing lessons late Sept/early Oct 2006. He loved it! It was a chilly morning, but the water was nice. He had never been surfing before, but he was a skateboarder growing up. I think that is why he did so well on the surfboard -- similar skill set! It is something that he wants to try to do every trip or at least every other trip. There were also plenty of spectators (the non-surfing family members) if there is anyone in your party that doesn't want to surf, but doesn't want to miss out on the fun!

If you stay at Typhoon Lagoon for the day, you have to exit and re-enter.

I called the front desk the night before to arrange a cab for the following morning. If I am not mistaken, I think they had to call a cab for us in the morning anyway. We stayed at Pop and the cab wasn't too pricey -- I want to say less than $10 w/tip? I can't remember!
