Still needing to lose 30 pounds although I'm not really trying right now. My best friend has lost 40 lb. on slim fast but I've tried that and I get bored with it. I was reading about the South Beach diet and it sounds good--no carbs for two weeks then a slow reintroduction. Anyone tried this one?

Rock'n Robin,

I started The South Beach Diet today!!! My Husband is joining me on the diet also. So far so good, I've not been hungry, but I seem to be thinking about food alot. Of course when I came into work this morning there was a box of cookies and danish on the table in the lunchroom. I just walked right past it. The diet seems pretty easy to follow. I'll try to remember to post back in a couple of days to let you know how it is going. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. Need to lose 30# before my cruise!!

I've been doing the South Beach Diet for about 4 wks. So far, I like it. I've lost 10 lbs. and I don't feel like I'm dieting!

What's the difference between the South Beach Diet and Atkins?

I like South Beach as well-I am 1. uncomfortable with the thought of long term ketosis and 2. Have an obsessive personality so would be checking six times a day to see if I was in Ketosis so I find south Beach a much better fit-have lost about 10 pounds in 5 weeks and I slipped up pretty bad a couple of times and set my self back.

Rhonda-South beach is much lower in fat than atkins-no cream cheese, cream, bacon and so on. it is not ketogenic. Complex carbs are allowed in the 2nd and 3rd phases at a higher level than atkins.-not tons of them but definately more than Atkins. There is a little more flexibility in South Beach. I recommend reading both books and deciding what is best for you

Mattsmom,

Thanks for the tip on the prevention.com site. I had some questions that needed answering and was looking for something like that.

I have tried Atkins and couldn't get past the 3rd day because I had the worst taste in my mouth and terrible breath. Everyone is different and you need to find the plan that works the best for you.

Both DH & I are doing So.Beach. We're happily in our 3rd wk. of Phase 2 and getting great enjoyment from the addition of "little things" i.e. for snack yesterday, we each had 1/2 Granny Smith apple spread w/ natural (no sugar added) peanut butter.YUM-YUM! DH has lost about 18 lbs. & I've lost 8 lbs. We're both exercising almost daily. (I always exercised, but DH was sporadic, at best, before starting SB) DH also has chloresterol problems (his health issue was one of the main reasons we selected So.Beach) so we're anxious to see his new blood work in Sept. Of course, we need to survive our 2 wk. vacation: 1 wk. at WDW (at OKW) & one wk. at Hilton Head (we're long-time DVC). I think the kitchen in both units will be a diet saver! We've almost doing the single digit dance.

Hi, I'm also on it and I really like it. Actually I found it not easy but I ate so many good things it seemed easier than others. The only thing I really miss is pasta but I think I'm far enough along that I can enjoy a bowl of it once in a while and not blow all my hard work. It also made me feel much better about the exercise I was doing because I was really working hard on that but with my lousy eating habits not getting many results. Good luck.
