I saw the program on Nova, thought about it, and recently something caught my eye about the Fast 5 program. From the time I was in about 6th grade up until I was about 28, I basically did the Fast 5 program without knowing that was what I was doing. Then I found out it was considered unhealthy to eat that way. I did Weight Watchers for a while, then Low Carb.

The Fast 5 program basically says that you fast until 5 PM each day. From 5 to 10 you can eat. There are some other forms such as 5:2 (You can eat 5 days, then must fast for 2). The Fast 5, like I said, is just what I naturally did for many, many years until I discovered that the experts said this was unhealthy. . .except now the experts have found a lot of health benefits. :confused3

I've done the Fast 5 for two days now. It's been as easy as falling off a log because I'm just going back into an old, deeply engrained eating habit. I drink a lot of de-caff and sparkling water until I leave work. On the drive home I eat a low-carb protein bar which keeps me from gorging when I finally get home. Then I have a good low carbish supper and have a little snack before bed.

We'll see if I lose any weight. Before I was thirty, when I ate this way routinely, I weighed 20lbs less than I do now. Of course, I was also younger then.

Well, in 4 days, I'm down 3lbs, which isn't unusual for a new diet. However, I have definitely lost a little fat here and there and it's been sooooo easy to do. :thumbsup2

This is also going to be quite the budget enhancer for me (Which is one of the reasons I did this when I was a kid in school - my parents gave me lunch money each day. By not eating, I was able to pocket that money.) as I'm not spending any money for lunch at work nor eating any of my usual breakfast foods and am pretty much just buying the same things for supper.

Are you keeping track of the calories and nurtients that you do eat?

I saw Dr Mosleys program on PBS and I am thinking about the 5:2 program. I have one more half marathon I am running this month and then no more long races until September so I will work on decreasing the number on the scale when I don't have to work so hard on the extra fuel to be able to run those long runs.

We will see how it goes.

Part of the theory of the Fast 5 is that you shouldn't count calories and just eat what you're hungry for. You'll gorge at first, but as you get used to the pattern, will eat less and normally.

I've been a low-carb eater for other health reasons, so I'm sticking with that, but am just eating what I'd like.

I have been ravenously hungry at the end of the day, but eating a low carb protein bar on the drive home gets rid of that, and when I get home I eat a good supper and then eat a snack and am finished eating by 9PM. I think I'm probably eating a little too much, merely because I CAN, but now that the reality that I'll be full going to bed is setting in, I can see that I will scale back.

You can get the Fast 5 book for free - the doctor who published it has it on his website in .pdf form, just google "Fast 5 diet."

I have to admit I was drawn to it because I knew I would succeed and because the 5:2 seemed really difficult for me.

Good Luck to you! I do not think I could do it that way but I will be interested in your progress!:thumbsup2
