anyone travel around Easter? Cheaper days to fly?

We are going to Disney first time ever spring break...Yes crazy....yes insane.....
I am hoping flying out the Wednesday before easter and the following Wednesday will help our airfare
We normally travel with Southwest. Let me know what I am looking at.....500/person? more/less? We usually
can fly around 260/person no more than 300

You didn't mention what city you are traveling from. Easter by itself is probably less of a travel issue vs. spring break that could apply to more people. Schools in every part of the country don't take their spring break at the same time. Typically for travel around peak periods, you get better prices and the most desirable travel times if you book as soon as you know you plan to travel. When airlines can fill planes around peak travel days, they aren't going to need to offer sales to help full up the seats. If the lowest priced seats sell out, then the fare will jump to the next higher category.

If you don't yet have your hotel reserved, I would also check to see if a day or two sooner/later results in any better prices.

We used to head to Florida for spring break every year … some years it corresponded with Easter and some years not. I found that airline pricing was really in tune with local school district spring breaks more so than Easter. Anyway, I usually found that flying out a day or two before school got out was there best bet for getting lower prices, so Thursday or early Friday.

Prices really fluctuated from year to year and I flew whatever airline/dates I could get the best price on. Once we lucked into ridiculously cheap flights on Delta on a Fri-Fri trip. I’ve also booked different airlines each way before and, once, we departed from one city (Grand Rapids) and landed in another (Detroit) … even with one way one day rental cars in each city, we saved quite a bit by doing it that way.

It definitely helps if your trip dates are a little flexible. Since we always went to Florida, I’d often start looking early and then just book the rest of the trip after we had the flights.

We usually always fly Southwest, but last Easter (2022), Southwest was way too much money for us. DH and I were flying down for a few days to see our sons perform in the MK with their marching band. We wanted to fly to Disney the Monday (night) before Easter and fly home the Friday (morning) before Easter. Flights were over $500/per person for us to fly round trip to/from Baltimore.

We ended up flying American out of Philadelphia. I loathe the Philly airport, but our round trip flights for the two of us were coming in a little over $500 total, so roughly half of what SW was going to cost. We just couldn’t pass up that price. That said, I’m happy to be flying Southwest in and out of Baltimore again.

Wednesday before Easter should be fine. As long as you avoid Good Friday and Easter Monday, you should be okay. This past April we flew DCA-MCO round trip for a little over $300 per person on SW by going Thursday before Easter until Tuesday after Easter. That's fairly typical.

Price compare by checking other airlines. The legacies (American, Delta, United) are often cheaper than Southwest. Staying brand loyal can cost you. Southwest prices in particular can really spike at certain times so it's good to check around.
