Anyone there right now?

I am not there, but I live less than 30 mins from Disney. We are still not seeing anything yet, but in the next couple of hours everything should start picking up a little bit. This storm is really making everyone crazy, it is moving so slow and we have been waiting so long for it to get here. Vero Beach is right inbetween "feeder bands" and from the news footage it looks like they are already having horizontal rain an quite a bit of wind.

We are at the Wilderness Lodge (nonDVC members). They have the pool open and will have outdoor games for the kids until the weather turns inclement and move the activities to the lobby. Characters should be visiting throughout the day--but no set schedule.

Hurricane preps--All the lanterns are tied down--the doors facing the pool in the lobby have been sandbagged and they were tying stacks of lounge chairs to fixed structures. Patio furniture now occupies the hallway in front of Roaring Forks.

Whispering Canyon and Artist Point are open--WC will serve skillets only and AP will serve brunch and a buffet dinnner. Roaring Forks CM said they will be open all night. But once the weather turns inclement, the DVC members will not be able to get to the main building. CMs will be selling boxed meals over there this afternoon.

The entire WDW complex is shut down--they are discouraging guests from jaunting from the hotel in their own vehicles--all transportation is shut down and no taxi cabs are running. Guest services said that the state troopers are "shutting down" at noon--which I guess means that officially the roads will be closed.

I don't know what is going on elsewhere.

But the weather right now is beautiful.

We had to add tomorrow night to our ressie--with a waived cancellation policy if we should not need it. They honored our discounted Fla Residence rate for the extra night. We may not be able to drive home--and even if we could, we may not be allowed to our home--so it looks like we are here until Monday :(

Good luck Lisa! Thanks for the report and prayers for your home, too.

Thanks, Lisa, for the update.

I wish you all the best for the rest of the weekend. Be safe!

I'm not "there", but I am here in South Florida and we are getting hit with pretty nice sized gusts of winds and scattered rain showers. We are all shuttered up and ready to ride it out. Prayers for all who are going to get hit harder than we are.... brace yourselves!

As long as you stay safe at least you're "stuck" in a great place! The storm has been downgraded, so maybe it won't be as bad as anticipated.

Best Wishes!

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers--the unfortunate part of the hurricane--good news it is downgraded---but instead of a "slam" done in a short amount of time by a powerful hi-grade hurricane, we are getting visited for a less powerful hurricane for a longer period of time :(

They announced that all bridges to the islands in my county will be closed until verified safe by engineering and that no residents can return until they assess the area.

So yes, the Wilderness Lodge is a great place to be if we can't be at home. But due to finances--we will either go to the in-laws in Tampa or a shelter near home on Monday so that we can go immediately when allowed and assess our home and take care of the kitties.

WL--they have roped off the pool. To further discourage people from going into it. They have been doing all sorts of games with the kids in the Lobby.

Mickey, Minnie, Chip & Dale evidently are staying at Wilderness Lodge for the hurricane much to the glee of my 2 DDs :) They have brought over the African Drummers from EPCOT and the lady (Japan, I think?) that does the candy art.

Flashlights have been distributed and it looks like later this evening through tomorrow evening, we will be limited to our hotel rooms.

We had lunch in Whispering Canyon today--figured 13.99pp was better than 21.99 per person. It was yummy and though short staffed they were still able to keep their antics up. DD4 got to do the horse race with Chip and Dale. It was a nice hour or so that I didn't think about Frances and was able to enjoy family time.

Any news this monring (Sunday) from DVC? HAs the westher turned decidedly worst yet? How are the guests holding up?

Randy
