Just wondering for anyone who has stayed at Super 8 on Katella if there was a way to cut through behind Castle Inn to get to Harbor, or if we need to just walk around the corner? I was looking at google maps and saw that it is literally right behind the Castle Inn, so it would be nice to be able to cut though if we can and make it a little bit shorter of walk.

There are thick hedges around the perimeter of the hotel property, and fences I think, so no way to really cut through :( someone had mentioned a shortcut, I think, when I first stayed there, but I could never find it, so around the corner we went! The good part of that around the corner walk is that you pass a 7-11 if you need to grab any goodies on your way to the parks. We always stopped in to get out water and soda for the day, so we weren't spending $3.25 per drink! (We don't like the tap water, even filtered, at Disneyland, so we bring bottled water daily.)

Oh bummer, thanks for the info!! I did notice the 7-11, which is great! They have good iced coffee and I'm sure my DH will want an energy drink or two (even though he curses having to pay CRV lol).

So I take it you went with the Super 8 for your trip? If I recall your trip is before ours, let me know how it works out for you. :goodvibes

Have you thought about the ART or have you decided just to walk it? GetAwayToday has discounted ART passes, kids free and 5 days for the price of 3. I think we are going to give those a try.

Yes, BIG thanks to your tip/suggestion!! I lucked out with Orbitz!! I will definitely report back. All the reviews were extremely positive, so for finding a deal of $71/night I'm really happy!! Thank you!

It will be just my DH and I on this trip, but I asked him last night what he thought about walking vs taking the ART, and as usual he had no opinion :sad2:.
We stayed at the Castle Inn on our last trip and found it easily walkable, so I thought if that could be our starting point again, then it wouldn't be as bad. I'm sure we will just walk.

might I suggest that if the hedges get in your way, either try to climb over them, crawl under them, or if neither will work out very well at all, take some small pruning shears, create nice topiaries. One of a number of nice design ideas may be, oh say, Alice in Wonderland. you could create a rabbit hole or a looking glass, where you can go through it, and then on the sidewalk and away you go to the land. :)

;)

Hey...... in theory it really could work, right?!
Lol

Give it a go. Maybe you will receive a discount on your room for the beautiful gardening work. Of course, you may end up getting arrested instead. But hey, it might be worth trying. Let us know how it works out. And please take pictures too. That being of your handy landscaping work, not the jail. Well, actually, pictures of one's unfortunate incarceration might be very interesting too. Sigh...... choices choices....... Lol

I didn't see any way around. The walk isn't so great, especially at 0-dark-thirty if you close down the park.

We stayed there our very first trip in 2006...and never again. ONLY reason is...it's a VERY. LONG. WALK. If you can handle that, then that's awesome, but my feet were hurting SO bad by the end of our trip from that long walk to and from the park that the last day I honestly couldn't walk. We mostly just sat our 4th day in the park! I told my husband after that, it was worth an extra 20 or so bucks a night to be closer! The hotel itself wasn't bad, but I have heard it's been updated since we went.

If your feet hurt at the end of the night just take a cab because with the ART you have to transfer routes

I don't think walking will be too big of a deal, but I will talk to the hubby try to get an actual opinion out of him lol.

I would like to pre-purchase ART passes online before (if we decide to go that route), but if not then I'll just have to hunt down a kiosk when we get there if we decide its further than we want to walk.

Damn, I'm staying at the Super 8 in October and I too was hoping there'd be a shortcut! Oh well.

What do you classify as a very long walk? It looks to be about 15 minutes, which doesn't seem that long to me :confused3

Ah but mes amie, can seem somewhat long at the end of a long day. I have not stayed there. But, have elsewhere that would be about a 15 minute walk that's enough for me, when I'm going to be walking around the countryside once I am there. So, where I am , I take shuttle from Toy Story parking lot.

Wait, you have to transfer ART routes just to get from Disneyland to the Super 8 on Katella? It seems relatively close (and only two streets involved)

It is a really long walk. We would finally get to the corner and I would be like...oh we are almost there but even down Katella it is a bit of a way. Compared to where we stayed last time, the Anaheim Plaza, it seemed a LOT longer on those walks back. All about preference! Some people don't mind the walk...but it was long to me!

Route 6 stops in front of the Americas Value Inn next door which should go to Disneyland without requiring any transferring (though it looks like there is one more stop on the way to the parks (Ramada) and probably several on the way back).

Where exactly is the Disneyland stop? Where does it drop off?

It drops off at one of the loops just to the east of the esplanade and bag check. I am not sure which one though.

Thanks for the tip about the discount ART passes...we are staying at La Quinta Inn (with our puppers...great pet policy), and it looks like a 20 min. walk, which I am fine with, but for $30/four passes (2Adult/2kid), I can't pass it up! Just looked at the route, and looks like a quick trip from DL, but might be a 15 minute ride from LQI to DL. So...not much different from rising busses at WDW ; )
