Anyone taking the children out of school??

We took our little girl out of school 5 days after October half term and will be taking her out 5 days following the easter break. We will probably continue to do this throughout her primary school with the exception of SATS years. We were straight with the head as I don't want to be dishonest with the school. We told her our reasons and I think off the record she believes that family time is very important for children and doesn't really see it as a huge problem if the child is achieving well. My husband runs a business and he has 7 members of staff that all need school holidays too so if we let them take their holidays in term time we can't fit our holidays purely into school holidays.

The onnly thing I wouldn't do is to take leave in September as they need to be settling into new classes, making friends etc.

We are taking our 6yr old granddaughter out for three weeks in September. She starts her school term on the 1st September and we are going on the 9th. All her friends from the last term will still be in the same class as her, so this will not be a problem. The Head has said that she is ok with this, and to go and enjoy it. If she was starting a new school we would not take her out, because of the reasons you have given. Also if she was in comp and had exams coming up we would not take her out, but I think in primary school as long as they already have their friends, and are settled, there's no harm in it.

I was dreading reading this thread but wow everyone seems to be having a nice civil discussion. Although not going till may 2015 we have already had consent to take DB daughter out the week before may half term after her sats. We asked advice first and we had a letter confirming her leave as we had asked so early and it was after sats. My DD however Im still thinking how to ask as in year 7 but I know her head advocates family holidays and himself disagrees with the new ruling. I think with children who have good attendance and are doing well there should not be any question. Everyone enjoy ur holidays and enjoy spending the extra money you have saved by doing this.

Totally agree and she will have been back a week so gets to know her new teacher and class. She can always do a little travel blog so all her friends can hear about it on return. Thats what my daughter did. It was fun for her as well. We included pictures. Taking two bags of goofys candy back also helped :)

Glad you said about the candy, that's a must do :thumbsup2

we are taking our DS8 out of school for 6 days after easter - although the head cannot authorise this - it will be marked down as unauthorised absence -I am still taking him as we have had it booked since last April.

I was told by the education welfare office and the head at my sons school that as long as the child has less than 10 days in a school year off school there won;t be any fines. Sickness is included in this 10 days. My son has never been off school thsi year and got 100% attendance last year.

The fine in this area (know it varies per area) is £60 per adult - if two parents - both will be fined £60 total £120. If single parent only £60 fine total
