We are thinking of taking the train to Orlando, fun experience and cheaper than gas right now. Has anyone ever done this? Can you get a shuttle near the port or should we try to rent a car? How would we do this? Rent the car to get there - then rent it when we get off the boat to get back?
Any help with this would be great!

You may consider Kissimmee as the station as it's closer to WDW, than Orlando. The station in Orlando is in a warehose type area and do not know if there is a car rental there.

I'm not sure...just thought I'd bump it by saying that it sounds like a good idea. I almost wish I'd looked into it.
Good luck!

Our first choice is to fly but we've traveled by train several times for various reasons. I'd rather take the train than drive. If I drive down I arrive exhausted.

I didn't think it was too bad. Our trips were usually overnight with arrival in Kissimmee around noon. I can sleep anywhere so with a sleep mask and a flannel sheet I am able to get some rest. I highly recommend not sitting near the automatic doors. I packed snacks and drinks and brought stuff to keep everyone occupied. It was nice to be able to get up and walk around.

Although I didn't rent a car I believe there are rental companies which will pick you up there when you arrive.

Amtrack-knows you do not want to fly-remember that. When I did not fly
for several years took the train from Boston to Orlando in the late 80's and
early 90's. They can be rude. There are sometimes alot of stops during the week so take it on a Sunday if possible. My dad currently does the train
to Orlando and things have not changed much. Like I said they can be rude
but some of my best and funniest stories were from riding the train.
