I'm curious if anyone has experience getting from the downtown Orlando Amtrak station to the resort area of WDW? If yes, did you Uber, cab, other? About how long did it take? Price? Thanks in advance.

if you go ahead and load the UBER app on your phone

you can enter any FROM and TO and get a "now" rate .... unless you hit CONFIRM the trip isn't booked

you can get an idea of the cost this way ... your actual cost may vary but IME not by much

for example, right now I checked Orlando AMTRAK to Disney Contemp' and get
X at $29.13 and XL $45.40
both estimated a wait time under 10 minutes ....

Have you also checked the cost to the Kissimmee station? Its actually closer to WDW.

Depends upon how you measure it. Kissimmee is geographically closer but you have to drive on more "local" roads with lower speed limits, which tends to take slightly longer. The Orlando station is basically a straight shot down Interstate 4.

In the map, I picked a reasonably centrally located point at Disney World: Disney's Port Orleans - Riverside Resort. According to Bing, it's 18.3 miles or 23 minutes without traffic from the Amtrak Orlando Station. It's 13.1 miles or 24 minutes without traffic from the Amtrak Kissimmee Station.

There are two factors to consider. First, there's traffic. If the train arrives around rush hour, Kissimmee is probably the smart bet. Although, there's still going to be some traffic in the Kissimmee area, too. The second factor is toll roads. They aren't an issue coming from Orlando. But, the two quickest routes (according to Bing) from Kissimmee involve toll roads.

Anyway, that's just extra information. You're definitively smart to mention Kissimmee as an option. I don't think everyone realizes it is a viable option.

Thanks. I live in a rural area and have never used Uber. I appreciate the insight on how to see a price without actually ordering. Downloading now for future research!

We rented a car from the car rental desk inside the Amtrak Station.
We dropped it off at the airport as we did the train one way and flew home.

Just a head's up regarding the Kissimmee and Orlando AMTRAK stations. The last 2 times we took the train down to WDW many many people got off at Orlando and we stayed on to Kissimmee. Each time the train was held at the Orlando station for approxiamately an hour so there was no time or taxi rental gain by getting off in Kissimmee. We're taking the train down again in November and for sure getting off in Orlando.

We take the Silver Meteor but I've no idea if the same delay happens for the Silver Star which follows a slightly different route through one of the Carolinas.

Thanks for this helpful info. At this time I believe I’m flying into Orlando and then taking the train to Tampa after Disney. But there may be other times when I arrive from the train in Tampa. Sounds like the Orlando stop might be best.

My friend is taking the bus from Tampa on Amtrak and then taking the train back to Tampa after. We are picking her up in Orlando because I didn't really know about another option. Hopefully it all works out but the cost for the train from Tampa to Orlando is so cheap that we couldn't pass on it instead of me driving down to Tampa to pick her up.

AGREE! That ticket price is awesome. Especially considering what a nightmare I-4 can be!

where is the closest Train route from Wilmington, Del. to Orlando and cost?

Another difference between the Star and Meteor is the fact that the Meteor has a dining and cafe car whilst the Star only has a cafe car. I think both also have roomettes as well as coach seats.

Yes there is but the Silver Meteor is the faster train for the route that paults is asking about.
Yes, but time spent on the train may be less important than the fact that the Star arrives in the morning, while the Meteor arrives in the afternoon. And, as NYCgrrl said, the Star doesn't have a diner, which means that sleeper tickets are usually much cheaper.
