Anyone Take 2 Single Strollers in Place of a Double?

Through the advise on these boards I bought a Maclaren when my DS4 was an infant. I LOVE it. We planned to buy a Maclaren Double for our twins, but it is very heavy when closed.

We are planning to buy two single Macs instead and bring those. We did order the Lionheart connectors that allow you to hook them together, but don't know how this will work out.

Just wondering what other's experiences have been with either a double or 2 singles in the airport and parks.

Thanks in Advance

I asked this same question because we are doing it w/ 2 umbrellas. A lot of people say its soooo easy. Like you and one child can go one way if you dont want to do what the other 2 wanted to do.

Yes!! would personally never bring a double stroller. Last trip kids were 2 and 3 and we brought 2 singles. They will be 4 and 5 this trip and I am going the same. (also hoping this is my last trip with strollers:worship:)

Yes, that is what we do. It's so much easier to split up with the kids that way. (I don't have twins. Mine are 6, 4, and 1.) I never worried about hooking them together, as we always had at least two grownups available to push.

It's also easier (I think) to get two singles on the bus than a double.

When my kids were little we always brought 2 strollers, it worked out great every time - we each had 1 to push.;)

We did it one time for a short trip and I thought it was a pain in the butt!

a. we were both always pushing (there was no break for one of us)
b. 1/2 the time no one was in either stroller and we were pushing them and trying to hold hands with the girls.

If you are linking them up it shouldn't be too bad.

If we weren't using one of them, we just put it into stroller parking and picked it up later. :thumbsup2

When we went last year we did take our 'Big Daddy' double stroller. It wasn't too bad, but also wasn't too great. Pushing 46 lbs of just stroller is bad enough, but then to put both girls in... my wrists were killing me when we got home. Plus on the way home when we gate checked our stroller it came back to us with a handle broken. What a way to end the trip! :scared1: This year we are taking two. The girls got to pick out their own and everyone is happy!

We just got back from a trip with our almost 4 year old and 1 year old twins. I can see how have single strollers might be an advantage when you have two children of different ages who (a) might want to do different things and the parents can split up or (b) the older one might use the stroller less than the younger one, in which case you can park one of the strollers or not use it sometimes. However, with twins, my husband or I liked that one of us could take the stroller by ourselves while the other parent took our older daughter on a ride. Also, like a pp said, we could take turns pushing the stroller while the other parent had a break from pushing.

I have a Maclaren twin side-by-side stroller also and was surprised that you thought it was heavy. We thought it was great for use in the parks, resorts, on and off the buses and monorail, and at the airport! I thought it was pretty lightweight and easy to collapse and open. I also liked that it could recline if the boys wanted to nap (not sure how old your twins are and if they would doze at all in the stroller). Your two single Macs probably do the same though.

Having two single strollers might work out ok for you if you use the Lionheart connector piece - never used one of those before - I would definitely try it out before you leave and make sure it will work well for you! Good luck!

Another advantage of single strollers is that you have a backup if one happens to get drenched in a freak rainstorm when a CM moves it out of its sheltered location to a spot right under a finial acting as a downspout! Not that that has happened to us!

Hello!

Also on advice from DIS, we bought a Maclaren single stroller and Lionheart connectors. Although they weren't perfect, they were a good compromise. We kept our strollers separate most of the time because with the connectors, the strollers were more difficult to maneuver (as is case with a real double anyway). When we needed it, it was handy to be able to quickly convert to a double.

We probably had 100 people ask us where we got them and comment what a great invention!

IMHO, strollers are essential in the airport, it is so busy and crowded. We rolled ours right up to the gate.

We use two Mac Volos.

DH and I like each pushing one and maneuvering through the crowds. They're also very easy to fold up for the busses.

We bought the stroller connectors, but only used them once during our first trip. DH walked around a bit with the two little ones while older DD and I did RnR. We met up to do rider switch and he left me with the two connected strollers. I got about half way down the street, turned around, parked the strollers, and waited for them to get off the ride. They work if you absolutely need to have the strollers connected, but you can't connect them and tour the parks like you have a real double stroller.

This year, if I was ever left alone with the two little ones and the strollers they would just walk with me and I could easily push each empty stroller with one hand or one kid would walk and I would just fold up the other stroller. Depending on where we are, we may just park both strollers for a while.

We usually always stay together except for 15 mins here and there, so it's usually not an issue to have one stroller per adult.

We did 2 single strollers the first trip and one double the 2nd. We'll be bringing the double back this year, for a couple of reasons:

1.) Much easier on the bus for me to take the kid and DH to only juggle one stroller.

2.) My kids are old enough (6 & 4) that if we want to split up for a bit, one can walk. We did that last year.....I took DD in the stroller to Toontown. DH stayed with son to go on Haunted Mansion a few more times then walked over to meet us at Toontown. I found maneuvering two strollers around to be a hindrance when DH took off to the bathroom or to pick up counter service, etc.

I had not thought of this. but we are going to have to have a double and a single, dd5 will most likely walk some, but will most definatly get tired and ds3 gets tired just walking into store from car  and ds1 well, hes only 1 ;) so it 2 strollers for us, but one is a double. and we are renting the double from magic strollers:cool1::cool1::cool1:
