Anyone switch from Cable TV to Netflix?

We did it. We have netflix. We bought a Roku box from amazon to stream our netflix in HD. It also supports Pandora and a bunch of other channels.

We have a Wii. We have software that is available for a one time fee of about $40, called www.playon.tv . It makes hulu, cbs.com, espn, pbs and a bunch of other tv station videos play through your Wii right onto your tv so you don't have to have a laptop hooked up to the tv. We love it!

The only thing I miss about not having cable is watching some sports. We're not able to watch Brewers baseball games without having cable and we do miss that. But it wasn't worth the cost of cable anymore.

We love our Netflix streaming. I also just read that Netflix signed an agreement with more movie studios to offer even more movies and tv on the instant stream. We discovered a bunch of tv shows we like on Netflix that we never watched when they aired.

While I haven't canceled Cable...it kind of comes with our Co-Op :rotfl:, I do use Netflix and watch some Hulu. For Netflix, I didn't bother purchasing any devises to stream to the TV, I have a desktop connected to the TV and just use that for streaming and surfing...if your TV and computer have the connections, no need to purchase additional hardware or game systems to Stream.

Seconding the "Don't buy a 360 just for Netflix" comment. Because you do indeed need to pay for the subscription each year. Plus the interface is just crap. My boyfriend brought an Xbox to our new apartment, I bought my Wii. Xbox you can only browse through pregenerated lists of titles forever to find what you want. With the Wii since it has the remote, I can pull up a virtual keyboard and type in what I'm searching for, which is infinitely better.

I guess if your cable bill is high enough, a Wii would be worth buying just for this. But I'd look into some games or something to see if you could make it more fun. A Wii just for Netflix seems like an expensive little box to me... :rolleyes1

We're broke graduate students so money is definitely an issue. We have $15 a month basic cable because in PA and in our completely tree surrounded neighborhood, no way are we gonna get anything on bunny ears. And the next level up is $40 a month!:scared1: With internet, we can't afford that much, and the best packages you can get for internet + TV are $80 or so, which is too high for us.

We're on the $10 Netflix plan. Make sure you get that one since it has the unlimited streaming. I do enjoy the streaming very much. We use that more than the DVDs, to be honest.

I come from a family that has had a crazy amount of channels via digital cable or FiOS for the past 8 or 9 years, and expanded basic before that. It's a bit of an adjustment getting used to not having cable. I used to like watching Food Network and some other cable channels for the heck of it, and I miss the movie and rerun selection available on ABC Family. I wish there was an a la carte method for cable, I'd pay for about five stations and that would be it...

Between what's on networks, our streaming (we're working on Avatar: The Last Airbender right now, the whole thing is on streaming) and what we rent, we have enough to watch. I do miss the DVR and the spontaneity of just watching whatever is on. With the Netflix I have to plan ahead with what I want to see, and I also miss simple shows on a few of the aforementioned specialty channels that you can't get through Netflix.

But I agree with previous posters. If buying the Wii makes financial sense, as in, you get it back within two months or so if you hate Netflix, and if it looks like most of what you watch is on Netflix or Hulu, if you don't mind waiting for DVDs of shows to come out (you'll be a year behind on any water cooler discussions if that's a problem for you), and if you can do without all the extras, then it might be a good option for you.
