Anyone still take stroller for a 5 year old?

No... no way, not in a million years. If my 5yo is tired, I'm dead. I do miss the days of using the stroller to hold my bags though. I won't bash people who use them, if your kids get tired out, a stroller is certainly better than letting the kids moan and whine the rest on the night, but I think most kids are capable and would be happier if allowed to move around.

Just a thought, but do you think you would forgo your stroller if WDW had umbrella strollers for use to and from the buses? Many people seem to not really want strollers for park use, but need them at night when the kids are half asleep.

YES! We are bringing one for our dd who will be just 5 in Sept. We go 3 days after she turns 5. She is small for her age and I know her little legs get tired...especially at night. Last year we had to take turns carrying her and running for the bus. Not this year. We got a Mac Quest fo $20 at Salvation Army and look forward to using it between the gate and bus and resort! She probably will only sit in it at night in the park.

She probably will only sit in it at night in the park.

That's my plan as well. I bought a Maclaren Volo for our trip (though my niece can have it after our trip for her diabled daughter.)

I'm planning to leave the stroller in our room until after our mid day pool/nap break. Then I'll bring it along for dinner and the evenings. Come about 8 pm, I figure my youngest will need it.

We brought ours last year when my DD was 5 going on 6. She was way too heavy for me to push around and we hardly even brought it with us to the park. This year I'm selling the stroller at garage sale before we leave for our trip.

Absolutely. In everyday life he's probably too old for a stroller, but at WDW he will be walking tens of miles by the end of the trip. Definately bring one for him. My dd 2 and ds4 never use strollers anymore and i bough them a double stroller for our upcomming trip.

My dh and I have this debate every year. He feels we should rent one down there instead of bring our own. I am to cheap and say why pay the money if we have a good stroller at home that she is use to. This year she will be 4 dh feels she can walk it. I told him he is crazy. He has finally seen the light and agrees with me. Both her is my debate amongest myself, do i bring ehr umberalla stroller or her big stroller that she can lay down in?

Hi everyone
I was wondering if I should still take my stroller for my 5 yo DS? I don't know if he is too old, he never sits still, but I was thinking at WDW he will get tired and may want to sit down for a little while?:confused3

I rented the stroller just so I didn't have to walk around with a hot backpack -- it did double duty (like I new it would) when my son got hot and just needed about 15 minutes to sit in shade and take a rest. About two trips ago a mom told me that her 10 year old walked so much that he fell asleep on a bench in Toon Town and was so exhausted that she couldn't wake him up enough to get him to the front gate. She said another family heading toward the gate shared a double stroller they had (one side for the kid and one side for the stuff!) and it worked out great!

I'm bring my sit and stand stroller for my 4 and 6 year old(both havent' used one in a few years). But It is ALOT of walking and I would rather have it than having to deal with whining and being asked to carry them.

My DS will be 7 on our next trip, my DD will be 3 1/2. You better believe I will be bringing my double Maclaren! Although he won't spend all his time in the stroller, it's nice to know when he gets tired, it will be there. Plus, we like to stay at the parks until late...and if the kids get tired, they can just fall asleep in the stroller.

I'm taking our Mac Quest again because my younger DD (age 5.5) gave up naps around age 18 months :rotfl: Somehow, every day in Disney the last 2 years (1 trip each year), she zonks out late afternoon and sleeps in the stroller.... if she doesn't nap, she's an absolute BEAR to deal with :rotfl:

She also tends to fall asleep on the busride back to the hotel at night and it's so much more convenient to wheel her into the hotel and up the elevator rather than carrying her :rotfl2:

Hi
I think it reallly depends on the child. When my kids were 6, now 34 and 24, they didn't need a stroller. They were fine with walking. It's a different story with my DGD (5 1/2). We need a stroller for her. She doesn't use one a home, but walking around Disney is a different story. She's very active and my DD and I feel that she's safer in a stroller. Plus she's so slow when walking, we'd never get anywhere. We'll just park it in Fantasyland, walk to the different attractions, then stroller her to another part of the park. We did that last year, and it worked out great. You know your child best, so do what you want to do and don't let anyone influence your decision. Have a great time!!

We are going this Feb and we will be bringing 2 strollers. One for my 2 yr old & one for my 5 yr old. I know my son and 1/2 way through he would be tired, plus then we can walk a little faster to & from the parking lot. ;)

We stopped at age 5...took breaks when we needed to. It was so much easier than pushing them. But if you think it would be easier, take it!!
WDW...should be fun. Have a great trip!

When we took our then 5 and 7 year olds we took strollers but didn't tell them. We figured if they needed them after the first day we'd pull them out, otherwise, they'd never know and we wouldn't have to deal with keeping up with strollers. They never came out of the van. We had done a lot of "Disney Training" before we left home (nice long walks in similar weather) Both kids were amazing and never lagged (and we went HARD - my pedometer registered 12 miles one day and 10 or so most others) SO - I guess my advice would be have the option if you need it, but you might be surprised what little guys can do! One thing that probably helped us was that we were there when crowds were low - most rides were walk ons, so we didn't have lots of standing around time (which always puts me in more pain than walking) Had we had lots of lines to stand in (and thus sap their energy) we might have had a different result. Have fun!!

Honestly, I think that even adults after a whole day walking at Disney, wants a stroller at the end of the day ;). You can see the adults dragging themselves at the end of the day. Come on, how many times after a whole day shopping at the mall people gets tired? it's almost always, with Disney it's the same thing, what can we expect it's a HUGE park!. My personal opinion is, take the stroller. We should not demand a child to have the same resistance of an adult, they will have plenty of time for that:thumbsup2 .
