Anyone still buying the DDE card?

I copied this off of AllEars, but does anyone have a more current listing of the DDE restaurants? This is pretty old (Feb 2007). We leave in a couple of days and I am sifting through piles of paperwork to find a current list - but I'm hoping you can help!

I actually kept a tab going. Our bill for Kona Cafe was $58 for the 2 of us. This included the steak entree for hubby, the prime rib entree for me, 2 ice teas, and one Kona Kone to share. This did not include the tip, but included the discount and tax.

We love the Plaza and both had an entree (cheeseburger for me, turkey sandwich for him). Ice tea for us and both had desert. Our bill after discount w/o tip was $29.

I agree, while there are some meals that are a little higher, we don't eat like that every day or we would buy the ddp. We enjoy some regular TS meals too (like the 50s PT, Plaza, Olivias, Breakfast TS -- which are not very expensive and generally cost $25-35 for the 2 of us to eat at w/o tip).

Thank you.

We have the DDE card and it expires in April and YES we plan to renew it. We always tipped 20% before for good service, so the fact that Disney is automatically adding 18% to the tab is not a problem for us. In fact, if we have stellar service, which we often do while at WDW, we will certainly ADD to that 18%! However, if we have a problem, we would feel comfortable asking for a manager to discuss a tip of less than 18%. The DDE card has been a wonderful perk for us as AP/DVC and we feel we would be shooting ourselves in the foot to not have a DDE card when it will save us so much money, especially when Disney is applying a tip that is LESS than what we usually tip.

Did you know DDE also includes free valet at the hotel your rest is in? That is another $10 savings. Just in case you wanted to know...

Which happens to be one of my favorite perks of the card, well that and the discount, especially on adult beverages.

You also don't have to pay for parking at the parks if you enter after five p.m.!

Fot instance, we go to one of our TS use our DDP, and decide to order drinks or appetizers. Do we tell the server we have both "plans", they would then ring up the TS, take off from the DDP, then ring up the drinks, appetizers, etc. using the dining card and we get 20% off that total? The auto gratuity is added before the % off, correct?

Yes. :thumbsup2 You tell the server that you are on the DDP, and that you also have a DDE card for the alcoholic drinks and appetizers. Your 20% will be taken off the costs of the food you are purchasing (not what is covered on the DDP). And your gratuity will be calculated on the non-discounted amount.

We have done both on a few occasions. It works well for us. But we are considering the DxDP on our next trip- I have to recalculate if we even need a new DDE. Adult beverages, but is that enough to justify? Probably not. We'll see.

Is the DDE %18 tip already on that receipt of the split check? Did ya follow that one?

I think I did.... and I think it is included for the total you will pay, but not for the DDP portion.
DDE -tip added
DDP- no tip added

Can they make this any more confusing??

That's good to know! I wasn't sure how that'd work in reverse in 2008. I was just thinking since I ran into the flip side last year, maybe they'd transfer the auto gratuity the other way.

My wife and I have APs this year and we bought the DDE. We were very please with our experience during marathon weekend and look forward to using it this summer (11 day trip planned). We tend to dine at the signature restaurants quite a bit so the savings rack up quickly. We had only one server not explain the bill to us (califonia grill - worst service we have ever had there) and once the 18% was not included (R&C, where the server had the calculated choices and we were able to fill in what we wanted). The CG server did give a half-hearted explanation saying that most people know the drill by now so she has stopped explaining the bill unless people ask. Most servers are happy to present the bill with a proper explanation.

My question is this: Is it worth it for me to get the DDP on top of the DDE? And, with which plan do you think the savings are better?

I have DDE, just made an ADR for CRT for 6 people in August. The system would not figure in the 20% discount, and I had to pay in full the entire amount, without discount.

The CM said she thought the restaurant would adjust the difference. Is this true? Had anyone else had this problem? That was one of the main reasons I decided to book here, for the discount!

They changed this policy because of people like my dad! He's a great, fantastic and generous man...except when it comes to tipping! So this change is a good thing for the servers who wait on my dad. He normally would have tipped 15% on the post discount price. We always end up sneaking to find the server and give him/her more money. He's not a bad person....just a bad tipper. Heck, he even tips me 15% when I wait on him at the restaurant I work at!

Do you HAVE to have an AP to buy a DDE?? I can see that we would still save a lot of money only being at WDW for 1 week, but we won't be back in a year to justify the AP.

Unfortunately yes. At this time the DDE is only for FL Residents and AP holders. It's my understanding that it used to be only for FL residents, and then they opened it up for AP holders too.

Thanks Trisha. Now I'm going to have to take a look and see how much AP's are compared to the price of a 7 or 8 day park hopper pass.
