Anyone stayed onsite at Universal?

If it was just me and DH, I would choose PBH - without hesitation! The kids would love HRH though.

I have been looking at options for 2 nights (which inevitably means spending more :rolleyes1) and wanted opinions on the following choices:

Standard room - cheapest £328 + $50 for rollaway bed
Deluxe 2 Queen room - separate sleeping area = more space, no need for rollaway bed £436
Hard Rock Club - £486 + $50 for rollaway bed but included breakfast, drinks and evening snacks.

I think these will be our choices. Prices are for this August with Thomas Cook.
My opinion would be a Club Level room, for the reasons i mentioned before. We liked the convenience of it, we thought the food and drinks choices were of a high standard,we also tended to collect some and muffins and pastries to have in the parks as snacks during the day, and cereals that we took back to our Disney Resort after;)
If you go onto the Universal Boards here i think they have pictures of the offerings:)
We have done HRH - rooms are not huge so I would def get two.
Ive not stayed at HRH, but if they are a similar size to LRP then i can't see a rollaway making the room too cramped, especially for two nights, but thats just my opinion:goodvibes

And don't forget your cashback through Quidco :thumbsup2

Thanks! Must remember when I book.:thumbsup2

We've stayed at all three and HRH has our vote. It's the shortest walk to parks. The pool is nice & you never know what's going to happen while there. One year Bring It On was being filmed while we were there. We visited the pool during a hot set time & ended up being in one if the movie shots ;) Fun memory.

We wouldn't visit Universal without staying onsite. It's way too easy and the express pass is great!

I think my kids would award me brownie points for choosing a 'cool' hotel.

DH's eyes lit up when I mentioned free food and beer.;)

We've stayed at all three few times. I'd say for your family - and your first time - HRH would be the best.

If you're looking at price, then ROR will come in cheapest.

Portofino is a lovely resort, my personal fave and I've never found it too far to walk. In fact I enjoy the walks from all the resorts. We tend to walk to the parks in the mornings, water taxi back when tired!

Hi, we are family of 5, kids 14,12 and 11 and have stayed in PBH once a few years ago, hotel was beautiful but found the room very small with rollaway bed and luggage. They had a huge bathroom but don't recall any real benefit with that and with the kids we had to take the water taxi for the distance to parks.

Last two times we have stayed in HRH 2 queen deluxe and loved the extra space. Last time we had full luggage with us but there was plenty of space for it. The bathroom is very small but the walk from the parks is very easy and scenic. We don't like all being in one room and have been used to OKW space but still found HRH very worthwhile for a few nights

You sound like me - we definitely couldn't stay in one room for long and I the thought of the extra space in the deluxe room is very appealing.
I think I'm sold on that.:thumbsup2

We have stayed at HRH before and are staying again for 4 nights in August. We really liked the room, it was very clean, comfy huge beds, classy coffee maker. We preferred it to our room at the Beach Club really. Free wifi will be great with 2 teenagers! Few downsides; parking fee, no free fridge in room, snack items in Emack & Bolios slightly overpriced but fine for grabbing a coffee and pastry for breakfast on the way to parks. Express park access is what seals the deal for us.

We shall be staying at the start of our stay and just wanted to point out that 18 August is when the rates drop a bit as the end of the summer season, so may be worth rejigging your dates if you can. We are on the stay more, save more rate standard room including tax is $233 per night so £142 at today's rate.

We have considered upgrading to Club room but decided that $100 per night was a lot of breakfast! We are a bit fussy about drinks, don't do beer, fizzy pop etc. so not sure how much value we would get...

Sorry for the essay but hope that helps.:)

Thanks! Our flights are booked for 16th, so will most probably stay at US right from the start. Getting excited by the prospect of staying at HRH.:thumbsup2
