We go to Colorado Springs and stay at the Broadmoor for about 5 days every August. Absolutely beautiful. The resort looks out at a lake and the mountains including Cheyenne Mountain where NORAD is based as well as the Will Rogers Shrine, which chimes every 15 minutes. The air is crisp and cool and clean and it is one of my favorite places on earth. They have a wonderful pool and the service is better than Disney. Almost everyone will say good morning to you as you walk the grounds, from the people in suits to the people pulling weeds. You will not be sorry for spending time there. The resort has a very small movie theater, fireplaces on the patios. My favorite thing to do is just sit around the lake and look at the shrine and mountains. There's no place else that I've ever felt so much at peace. They have the best spa there also. It has been renovated and I can't wait to try it out again in a couple of months. The Broadmoor main building is where the most quaint rooms are with the best views. It was built in the early 1900s and has alot of history. They have spent millions renovating it.
There are a number of things to do in the area. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, drive up to Pikes Peak and look down through the clouds, Old Colorado City with unique shops, the Air Force Academy, the Olympic training center, Manitou Springs (another unique old town with shops), Garden of the Gods (a beautiful red rock area). 45 minutes north is one of the largest outlet malls in Castle Rock. Denver is about an hour north. Lots to do there. But my favorite thing is just taking in the sights around the Broadmoor. And yes, you should stay more than 1 day, but if that's all you have, you should sample it. Anything else you want to know?
