We usually prefer a 1st floor room at the resorts because I worry about the kids with the balcony. With a patio, we can sit outside with the kids without worry. My question is will we be missing something if we stay 1st floor? Has anyone stayed on the 1st floor at WL and what were your experiences?

On our very first trip we had a 1st floor room and loved it. It was at the every end so it was convenient to the pool, snack bar and beach for the kids. We could sit out on the patio and see them. In the morning it was great to get to the boat dock and bus station. We try and request it on every trip but it has always been occupied. The other rooms have nice views of the pool but it is incovenient for us when we want to use the pool.

We have not stayed on the 1st floor.

We did stay on the 2nd.

I believe the 1st floor rooms do have a patio but they are "enclosed" on the sides and front. It's kind of hard to explain but it looked as if the first floor was partly underground. Does this make sense. You could sit on your patio and still have quite a bit of privacy.

Maybe someone can clarify this further or have some pictures.

We were in a courtyard view room on the inner courtyard so I don't know what the first floor is like with the other views.

The first floor actually seemed quite nice because your patio wasn't out in plain view for everyone to see.

I wish I could explain it a little better. Sorry.

Hi Married2....

We stayed in a Courtyard view first floor near the end of the South wing. It was near the Trout Pass Bar. It was great. We could walk to the pool, eat lunch at one of the tables at the pool, and come and go via our patio.

We enjoyed the proximity to pool and the atmosphere of being "close" to the action.

Have Fun! :bounce:

WDW Lifelong Fan,

What was your patio like? Was it even with the ground or a little below it?

I think a first floor room at WL would be very convenient to the food, pool, lake. Glad you enjoyed it.

Just my 2 cents...
Our last trip, we were assigned a first floor room. One look at it and 20 minutes in that room and we hated it! Kids and people walking by our room ALL THE TIME, looking in!!! It made me REALLY crabby in a short period of time. We asked for a new room and the of course, they obliged with our choice of available rroms on whatever floor we wanted. UNfortunately...this room had an infestation of ghost ants and there was nothing they could do except move us again. It was our last night there since we hadn't noticed them before since and their name states, they're not easy to see. We just weren't destined to like the WL.

Good luck and have fun!!!
