We stayed twice.
First time was in '05? after all the hurricanes hit our state. The property was still damaged, but clean and the staff was good.
Last time was Oct. '06 and it was the WORST hotel I have ever stayed in. Our first room smelled something awful and had a cigerette butt hanging from the ceiling above the bed. Nice! Dirt on walls, stained carpet, and just a horrible choking smell.
We were moved to a second room, that smelled better, but was just about as dirty. Main problem with the second room was the door was attached by just one hinge, the other was ripped out. This made the door hard to open and close, in fact, my girlfriend couldn't open it to get out by herself.
The staff was rude, the grounds were poorly maintained in general, parking was horrendous, and many of the people staying/visiting were seedy at best.
We were offered a free night that we let expire, as to me, it's not a money factor, but a time factor. I don't want to chance my valuable vacation time by spending it at this place.
That said: The vast majority of reviews seem favorable. Maybe I'm the oddball. If iy were me, I'd stay two blocks north at Sheraton Studio City and take the trolly each day to the convention...
