I am considering this for next year. What is the weather like and are most restaurants still open? Thanks

Although we've never spent Christmas at HHI, we've gone a several times in the winter and at Thanksgiving so I might be able to answer your question about resturaunt closings. The only resturant I know of that closes is one in Sea Pines, I can't remember the name of it now, but it used to be Cafe Europa. That one has closed the last few years from November until mid-February.

We went for Christmas many years. Some restaurants will be closed, since it's the off season. However, with around 300 restaurants on that little island there are more than enough places to choose from.

Weather typically will be around 50 during the day, colder at night - unless a cold front comes down of course. It's walking on the beach weather - not playing in the surf weather.

This past week, the daytime temps have been in the mid-60s with overnight lows in the low 50s. Most restaurants are open right now - with some closed for renovations and vacation schedules. With about 300 restaurants available, even if a few are closed finding a place for a nice dinner is no problem. :)

I agree, the surf is a little too chilly to enjoy (ocean temps are in the 50s right now), but walking on the beach is truly pleasant. Many are playing golf and tennis too.

We have been to HHI for xmas week many times. We have not had a problem with restaurants being closed and were told that many close in January/February. The weather has fluctuated from 60's (with ds swimming in the heated pool) to 30-40's with gloves and hat weather. The resort has tons to do for the whole family. We love to shop and also have enjoyed trips to Beaufort and Savnnah as day trips. The beach is beautiful to walk anytime of year. Temps do allow golf for those who wish, but we love to relax, sightseeing and eating out and cooking in the villa. We love HHI any time of year.

We went about 7 years ago for about 5 days from about Dec. 29th - Jan. 3rd or so. We did find some restaurants closed as of Jan 1st, but as others have mentioned - there are plenty of choices on the island so a few closing here and there doesn't create too big of a problem. The kids did the pool a few times during the day, we walked along the beach, but mostly just rested after a hectic holiday.
