I was online a few weeks ago just playing around...wishing we could take another trip soon and got on the DisneyLand site to look too. I noticed the planning video like the WDW one so I ordered it. Well it just got here today and boy was I disapointed. I mean WDW is the premier park I guess in their group but this video was sad at best. I had been getting excited about a trip to California in the next few years to check out this park as well but based on what little info you can get on Disney Land I don't know if I should "waste" a trip that could be spent at Disney World?!?!?!?

Anyone else feel this video is lacking or any opinions on Land vs. World???

Thanks!

A trip to Disneyland is never a waste, in my opinion. But what do I know? I'm new to the boards and I've never been to Disney World! I just know that Disneyland is the original, it's magical, and it's really special right now, during the 50th anniversary. Maybe they should've hired me to make the video! princess:

The video is pretty lacking but I would love to go to Disneyland. I don't think it would be a wasted trip. I just got the Birnbaums 2006 Guide to Disneyland and it looks like a great place.

We've been to both numerous times, both are great. You should experience both.

Yea I got the DVD, don't know why though, the very same preview is included in the WDW DVD. Very disappointing that Disney put the Disneyland version out.

The DVD is lame, compared to the planning DVD for WDW, but the experience of going to DL is not to be missed. Go to the DL web site (or the DL boards here) to help you plan. We went this past summer, and yes, it's different than WDW, smaller, more cramped feeling. But to walk where Walt walked, and see the "original" rides is just so cool! I'm glad we went, but I'll take WDW any day! (and as you can see from my sig, we're going back to WDW next year!).

Since I've only gone to Disneyland and not WDW I can't compare the two. From what I've read here on the boards, DL's Pirates is better (longer I think) than WDW, and I personally love the Blue Bayou restaurant that is inside Pirates! I can't see how it would be a "waste", after all it is DISNEY!

(Personally, I didn't like the WDW DVD at all! I like the one I got two years ago much better)

We just got back today from a trip to Dl. Definately not a waste. We had been to WDW twice in the last two years and decided to go to DL for a change.DL has some attractions that WDW doesnt. We decided that do like WDW better, though, for two reasons. There is no Epcot in California, and the flight takes us all day compared to three hours to Florida.

I'm curious as to what the DVD looks like now.

It's not a wasted trip going to DL. There's so much magic there. Plus there's a special place in my heart for DL since when I was younger we would go there at least once a year.

Be sure to ride the Matterhorn, Space Mountain, CA Screamin' and Indiana Jones. They're our favorites.

I just went to Disneyland this summer and it was definitely not a waste. WDW and DL are very different and in some respects DL shines more than WDW and vica versa (spelling?).

You know what? At least the DL video doesn't have Erin and Luke!! Very annoying ... :rolleyes2

I wouldn't base my trip on information from the DVD. I have been to DL and WDW and found them both great places to visit.

If you plan a trip to DL the Disneyland board here on the DIS can be very helpful in planning.

I feel the Magic Kingdom is not quite as good as Disneyland.

DL the original built by Walt. There are more small details.

There is a New Orleans Square in DL, my favorite part of DL.

Pirates ride is longer, and has, IMHO a resturant with one of the best atmospheres in the world, the Blue Bayu inside Pirates.

Fantasmic is better (I feel MUCH better) at DL than DW.

Indiana Jones is one of the better rides in ANY park. Its' HUGE.

That being said, if DL is packed, it can be even harder to get around than MK.

There's no Matterhorn at MK. The ride is not that great, but for me, who grew up watching the Disney specials as a kid, It's beyond cool.

The DVD is really Bad. They want everyone to go to WDW instead of DL. IMO many of the rides that are at both parks are better in DL. The ticket prices are a somewhat better deal at DL because when you buy for WDW you are paying for 4 parks instead of 2. I get to go to WDW a lot more since flights are cheaper & I am a DVC member but I always have a great time when I go to DL & they have the best Disney ride ever, Indiana Jones & the Temple of the Forbidden Eye. And let's not forget Mr. Toad.

I was soo disappointed with the DL DVD. I'm one who gets the WDW DVD every year. This year it took 2 hours to watch. Then I ordered the DL DVD, because I was taking my first trip to DL this year, and figured I'd really learn something to help me plan. I popped it into the DVD player and fifteen minutes later, when it ended, I had learned NOTHING.
I can't give any opinions on the Land vs. the World, since my trip to the Land was for totally different reasons-seeing DS be a summer CM in Entertainment, performing every day. So I had a great time there! But come meal time, I really missed all the sit-down dining options, especially at Epcot. Also, having been to WDW so many times, I just wasn't as comfortable. When I needed to go to the restroom, I actually had to look at the map, something I haven't needed to do at WDW for years.

Unfortunately, the DVD is pretty lame. A trip to DL is never a waste, it is a wonderful place. It is not the same as WDW, but as my son put it "It is smaller but it has more magic." Please don't judge DL by the video.

Thanks so much for all the detailed responses. I think we will try for a trip out to Disney Land in the next few years...I'm sure our trip will be wonderful and I'll have to plan some "extra" California sights to that trip as well.

I'm sure they each have their own special "magic" but it seems a shame that Disney corportate wants to push WDW so hard. IMO

Thanks again
Dawn

I think it's not as easy to compare WDW to DL as people seem to make it. WDW is just so much larger, that in a lot of ways, it wins just because of that. DL is a much better comparison to MK only, not the whole world. These are the "sister" parks. As others have said, DL has a lot more detail than MK. Fantasyland in DL is so wonderful! I was so disapointed with Fantasyland at MK. Pirates is literally half the ride at MK. The Small World Fascade is soooo missing at MK, etc..... I'm from CA, so I have learned to love MK for itself, but DL is still my favorite. I'm not sure which park I could compare to DCA. It is different from all of them-but nothing compared to EPCOT, for sure. There are several rides at DCA that are in different parks at WDW, like Bugs Life (AK) and Soarin (EPCOT), Muppets 3D (MGM), etc..... If you're used to WDW, then you will probably feel a bit "foreign" at DLR, but you will enjoy it, and once you return again, you will learn to love it for itself! :)
