Anyone run into this at the pediatrician's office?

I think with a pediatric practice, they should have the children see the same doctor each and every time. It gives some consistency for the kid and there is a relationship there so the doc knows the idiocyncracies of the kid (or parent) and if there are any specific needs.

I know with my daughter, when she was very young (well under a year), you could NOT wear the color white around her. She would FREAK. This was only after a doctor (at a group practice) accidentally poked her ear when he was examining her. He was wearing a white jacket. After that? NO ONE could wear white around her or she would start crying and there was no comforting her until the person or the white clothing were gone. Of course, I would have to explain this to the receptionist on every visit and they would inevitably forget to tell the doctor who was working and it was always a drama scene.

I finally found a single-doctor practice and have been using him for the past 13 years. Love him, love the fact he doesn't feel the need to wear a white jacket.

I believe in a group they will give you whomever is available unless you are specific.

I always state the pediatrician we want when I call for a sick or well visit.

Sometimes they want to give you a NP instead of a doctor. It is always better to make sure you ask for the DOCTOR you want.

That is not my experience and I would be pretty peeved. They only schedule ds with his primary pediatrician for well visits. I do not have to specify, I give ds's name and birthday and they know who his doctor is. They do confirm the doctor's name with me sometime during the call. For sick visits they try except on weekends they rotate, so you get whichever ped is there. Of course I want ds to see his primary pediatrician, why else do we even choose one?

There are no nurse practioners at our ped office.

we've never had that happen. In fact, our kids see one dr in a group practice even if it's a sick visit. They never offer the other dr's at all. It's just not done like that there.

We had an emergency once where YDS busted his head open and we didn't know whether to go to the ER or just bring him in so the only dr still there (friday afternoon!) told us to just bring him in there and we could continue onto the hospital if needed. He was a great dr and patched DS up nicely so if we had to see another dr I'd be willing to see him.

But it's also a family practice so we all see this one dr. She knows us and remembers us when we come in for various things so I like seeing just one person.
