For those not paying attention, Bernard Madoff ran a ponzi scheme dressed up as an investment company. It looks like about $50 billion of what people thought they had is gone. It has wiped out charitable foundations, 401K plans, private investments, and who knows how much else.
Probably a good time to review who your investments are with. Are you sure they are reputable? Do you understand how actually earn their returns? Are you SIPC insured?
This crook took down many wealthy and presumably sophisticated investors. There were a million warning signs, but people trusted him and it looked like their money was doing well. What a tragedy.
