Anyone rented the Sea Raycers?

For a while, the rule was you had to be at least 12 yo to drive a sea raycer (with or without an adult). I remember this because my sister was 13 or 14 and drove by herself, and I was either 12 or 13 and drove with my mom (but didn't have to).

However, in the past couple of years they changed it to, you have to be at least 12 yo to drive with a person who has a valid drivers license, and at least 16 with a valid drivers license to drive alone. This was really a bummer, because I am 16 yo (just turned 16 before our trip), and on our trip this past summer, I still had to ride with another person who had a license because I don't get a license until I am 16 1/2. :guilty:

The sea raycers are VERY fun to drive around, and I definitely recommend giving them a try.
Remember to wear either a swim suit or clothes you don't mind getting wet when you are riding a sea raycer, because there is a possibilty that you will get a good amount of water in the boat. :thumbsup2

So - my daughters (age 8) will be able to ride with DH or myself, correct?

Yes, they will be able to ride with you.

Age 16 with a DL is required for the Seven Seas Lagoon/MK resorts only. Those Sea raycers go faster than the ones at the Epcot resorts, DTD, OKW and SSR. At that latter resorts, you need to be age 12 and 5' tall. DS14 loves to operate the Sea Raycers. I just found out, though, that they no longer have a Captains or Family plan that allowed you to pay a flat fee for unlimited use during your stay. I know they lost money on the deal with my family!

Someone mentioned that you had to be 16 to drive in the Seven Seas Lagoon. Not true if you are with an adult. You need to be 12, and I think that anyone can be a passenger.

I think you'd better check on that. They don't want kids who don't know how to drive driving those boats because they've had some unfortunate accidents, parents/adults or not.

We rented these in March at the Coronado Springs. My 13 year old son drove his own. I researched this a lot before going, and people on these boards said that the ones around the Magic Kingdom resorts were much slower and you had to be 16 to drive them alone.
