We are thinking about renting the small two-person "Sea Raycers" (I hope that's the name) this month and motor around the lagoon. Was anyone done this and would you recommend it? Was it worth the price and time spent? Thanks! :sunny: :sail:

Waiting to see what you get for replies since DH and I plan on it when we go alone next month. ;)

We did it this past May. We did it out of the Poly and then had lunch at Kona Cafe. You can go a pretty good distance and get back in a half hour, and they don't mind if you get back a few minutes late. The only annoying part was having to go really slow in the connector between Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon. If you do it, be sure to check out the remains of Discovery Island.

It's definately worth it if you like driving a boat and/or have a thing about extinct WDW. You can see Discovery Island and River Country from Bay Lake, and the Treehouse Villas from the Sassagoula River. It's worth it for that alone. But it's definately really fun to ride the boats except when a ferry or other large boat appears from behind an island - you have to move *really* quick. Keep in mind that even when it's light out until 8p, the boat rentals close at 5p.

Thanks Mickey. We have a 12 and 8 year old. I've read conflicting reports about the age limit. Do you have any info? :sunny:

Very worth it. My DH and I rented one, but together the weight made the thing very slow in the water. Fun, but not as much as could have been. Next time when we took the kids, we each took one of our kids with us. Much lighter in the water so much more fun. We loved seeing the GF, WL, Poly, and the MK from the little boats. Just very cool to be in the lake in front of the MK. Definitely worth it.

I just spoke to Sunny Duvall Watersports at the Contemporary Resort Marina. They rent Boston Whalers which hold six passengers for $33 for 1/2 hour and $66 for a hour. The Sea Raycers which holds two are $24 for 1/2 hour and 38 for a hour. Sound like a great way to explore the Seven Seas Lagoon :thumbsup2

I think you need to be 16 to ride alone, but a twelve year old can drive with an adult next to him or her.

Thanks for all the info! I think me and DH will be renting for an hour..No way can we manage on only 30 minutes..we are water people ;)

They are great fun. We rent them everytime we go. But it is 2 adults so I don't know the age limit for kids. Just remember if you are going to take some water with you - even though you are on the water and moving most of the time it still gets hot!

Rented one last year with my 14 yo DD. Even though they don't go very fast, she LOVED it! I let her drive, so she thought that was very cool!

We've rented them in the past. They are cool, but as it was stated earlier, beware the weight limit. They go pretty slow when you're near that limit.

Also, I think there was a 5 foot height limit for the kids. I know my DS15 made us rent them when he hit the 5 foot mark because he was denied the year before. :thumbsup2

Have fun!

We always rent them every trip! The view of everything is so beautiful! Be sure to bring your camera, we always get good pics! We also love waving at the people on the boats going to the Magic Kingdom and back to the hotels! P.S. Don't forget sunscreen! Made that mistake last time!

My kids enjoyed doing this on our "down day" at the Poly.

DH & I each took a kid. DHs boat was much slower than mine, but ds was only 3 at the time so he was just excited to be out there. When we came back dh was joking with dd that he was jealous because she was in the faster boat. The guy at the marina said he should have come right back with it if he wanted a faster boat, that some are quicker than others. :confused3

We plan to do this again - dd will be "almost" 12, I wonder if they will let her drive - with me of course ;)

For us it is worth it, we live near the beach but do not own any boats or wave runners.

Two questions: Do you have to be a guest at the hotel to rent the boat there? We were planning on staying at the POP

Can the racers hold one adult, one 7 yr old and a 2 yr old?

Hi - I have been looking into this myself.

No you do not need to stay at a Disney Resort to rent these.

No you cannot have 3 people in one boat no matter how small one of them may be.

Children 12 and up can drive their own boat but NOT in the Seven Seas Lagoon. I understand that they can drive their own boat at POR and CBR and maybe one other place. This is because of previous accidents and I think because of the ferry boats.

I'm wondering about the age limit on these also. The only thing I have found said children age 14 and younger must be accompanied by paying adult. I assume this meant with that adult on the boat'thing' with them.

You must be at least 5' tall and at least 16 years old WITH a valid driver's license to drive a boat in the Seven Seas Lagoon / Bay Lake.

Now, they're not going to get out a ruler and measure you, as I'm only 4'11", but you can't have someone 4'5" driving the boats.

It's really for everyone's safety. I found that after getting my license and driving on the road, I handled the boats better (they changed the policy right around when I got my license at 18, so I had driven the boats before without a license).

We've rented the boats at FW, and they do have a ruler posted just to the side of the rental window. My DS checked his height every time we went by hoping he'd grown since the last time he checked.

Enjoy!
