Anyone remember Six Gun Territory?

As I gear up for next weeks trip to the Wonderful World of Mickey I was just sitting and thinking back to my first trip with my cousins way back in 1977. We visited Disneyworld of course(mind you there wasn't as much to see as I believe Epcot was still being built) but one of my most vivid memories was going to Six Gun Territory. The gun fights, the train, the old town. Does anyone else remember this place? I know it is closed and has been for a while but I was wondering where it was and what is there now? Anyone know? It's funny how you can remember some things from 30 years ago and yet can't remember things from 30 minutes ago

I do!! We used to go as kids back in the late 70s early 80s. My dad especially loved it. My parents remember our first trip there (just me and them) and we got off of the train and a guy was there with a gun drawn at my mom ... and being 4 years old I thought it was all real and yelled "Please don't shoot my mommy!!!!" ... He thought it was quite funny as did my parents.

I remember them having "gun fights" and after we would run out into the street and collect the empty shells. The things we did as kids.

The other place I remember going to was Circus World. I loved it!

I wondered onto this thread by accident but your title caught my eye! I live about 5 miles away from what used to be called Six Gun Territory - I hate to be the one to break the news, but it's all gone...all of it. It's a strip mall now with a brand new Outback steakhouse sitting in the front.

We do, however, still have the other well-known attraction right down the road about 2 miles from there, Florida's Original Theme Park, Silver Springs. Maybe you've been there, too? Lots of movies, including Tarzan and Creature from the Black Lagoon were filmed here. It also has another part to the park now, a waterpark called Wild Waters.

It's a proud part of our history but unfortunately the only things left are a few statues around town and lots of old postcards and pictures floating around. You can check the archives of our local paper, www.ocala.com and see if there's any old photos.

Epcot was still in the planning stages in '77. They didn't break ground until late '79 so there was even less there than you remember.

That sounds like a really neat place! It really is too bad that a place like that is no longer. It would've been really interesting to "live" in frontier times for a day. Another place I really miss in Florida, that I have memories of from around 1975, is the Kapok Tree Inn - what a great restaurant that was. When I went back to Florida as a "grown-up" in 1995, the first question I asked at the Florida Welcome Centre was where it was only to find out that it is also a thing of the past.

Talk about a trip down memory lane....I don't know if it was Six Gun territory we went to or some other "old west town" but I remember loving that as a kid.

The Kapok Tree Inn....My memory of that is the time we went for dinner after spending a day at the beach. Upon arriving back at the car we opened the trunk to the wonderful smell of my stinking sea shell collection that I had spent all day amassing!!! And didn't they have fruity drinks with umbrellas in them or something like that?

Back then it was one day at the Magic Kingdom followed by trips to Busch Gardens, the Bottomless Boats and mostly hanging by the pool.

Now it's 5 days at the parks, 2 days at the water parks and a couple of evening of Disneyquest! Our last trip we did 5 nights at Vero Beach and then 5 nights on Disney property. The time at Vero just chilling by the pool or hanging at the beach was the best! Not a relaxing vacation once your on Disney property...yet I digress!

We leave this Thursday and we are driving down for the first time (just like when I was a kid). So these memories of Six Gun Teritory and The Kapok Tree Inn might help me see the trip through my own kids eyes a little differently.

Yup, the Kapok Tree Inn had virgin drinks for the kids that looked just like the alcohol drinks - big swirly souvenier cup with fancy straw and umbrella in it!

Isn't it amazing how much times have changed. I miss the nice relaxed Florida vacation. We did the same thing, spent one day at MK, Busch Gardens, Silver Springs, Cypress Gardens and the remaining days at the beach. In order to do that now, you either have to tell the kids WDW is closed or spend at least 3 weeks in Florida which sounds real good right now!

Here on the east coast we went to Six Gun City in New Hampshire, USA. It was just down the road from Santa's Village. We used to go every summer & loved it. My parents must have a million pics of us at those parks. Talk about a far cry from Disney parks!

That first trip I was a young teen so my coolness factor back then didn't allow me to appreciate it like I do now. I do have a the few vague memories of MK, like 10,000 leagues under the sea sub ride and the 'train' from the parking lot to the park entrance.
